Hello all! I am a fresh grad (bachelor’s) that got my first mechanical engineering job in Phoenix with a starting base salary of 77k USD. I will be renting a room and buying a car in North Phoenix. I am wondering if this salary is enough for life in Phoenix to begin with. I also plan to progress my career long term in the city, potentially buy a house, start a family, and have kids here. Any insight about starting life as a young adult with 77k USD starting salary in Phoenix is greatly appreciated. It will also be extremely helpful if anyone has experience comparing life and compensation/cost of living between Phoenix and Toronto. Thank you!!!

Got invited to do a 2nd interview that will involve technical questions. As a fresh grad who did not take HVAC classes and had no facilities related internship, I am watching YouTube videos to bridge my knowledge gap.

I am wondering what breath and depth I should expect from senior engineers when they ask technical questions? How should I be sufficiently prepared for this interview?

Here are some important topics included in the job description:

1. Designing, building and operating: air flow control, temperature and humidity control, and air molecules monitoring and control

2. Designing, building and operating: chilled water systems including chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, rotating equipment (motors, fans) and water-cooled air handling units

3. Designing, building and operating: general exhaust units, wet scrubbing unit, thermal oxidizer units, and local process air abatement units

4. Understanding of HVAC, plumbing and building codes (e.g., ASHRAE, IBC, IECC, IMC, and IPC)

5. vibration analysis, air molecules, chemical analysis, heat transfer, thermal management and fluid dynamics design and a general knowledge of heat and thermal conventional manufacturing techniques
