I need some help with a fighter paladin build

So. Context, I have been playing in this party for seven years regularly. I love this game, and most of our decisions have been made on a character basis rather than minmaxing. So my fighter sun elf decided that the best thing for him to do in a story beat was to take a paladin oath. I do not regret this. However, I like being a hard hitter and a tank. I'm a fighter paladin - ideal right? Unfortunately charisma was my dump stat. like it's bad. +5 strength, +1 dex, +1 con, +2 int, +3 wis, -3 cha. I'm not great at the rules, I don't understand a lot of stuff, but I do know that for paladins, charisma is important. My elf has the charisma of a door post. He's a level 11 fighter, level 1 paladin. I don't know how to make the paladin bit of his build work. We've got 2 rogues, one is a damage dealer, one is a dodge tank, 1 bard who can't fail any charisma rolls (she accidentally minmaxed trying to avoid other peoples niches), 2 wizards, one a glass canon and the other our healer. My fighter used to be damage dealer, but rogues with the sneak attack ability and wizard who learnt every single fire spell he was allowed outclassed him quickly so he became the tank, he's not great at this and I'd like to improve him. Any thoughts? He's my first DnD character so I didn't build him perfectly since I had no idea what I was doing for the first 3 or 4 levels. I've never minded that he wasn't minmaxed in any way until recently, since everyone else is so well suited to their niche.
