I’ve used a few online marketplaces in Ghana. Here’s my take.
Selling online sounds simple:
List the product → get seen → find a buyer → make the sale.
But in reality, visibility and trust can be just as difficult as finding the right product to sell.
Jiji :: good traffic and easy to use, but there’s a lot going on. Sometimes your product just gets buried, and trust between buyer and seller can still be an issue.
toad :: this one caught my attention because they’re trying something different, it’s more focused on actual businesses. Sellers verify first, the interface is clean, and buyers get some level of confidence knowing who they’re dealing with. The escrow also gives you another layer of protection. The only thing is, because it’s more business-focused, you may not get the same random variety you see on Jiji.
Tonaton :: decent platform, but it still feels more like a place to post an item than somewhere I’d build my whole online selling presence.
Jumia :: big reach and structured, but as a seller, you don’t have as vmuch control over your storefront and customer experience.
