Barrel advice

So I’ve been shooting Grendel for a few years and I love the cartridge. I have a 20” Saturn liberty barrel in my Grendel upper and I have a Grendel bolt gun I built that is mostly for bench and PRS fun. But I’ve been asked to join a friend in a team run and gun event. I think even my 20” upper is more than is really needed and heavier than I would like to ruck with for 13 miles a day. I’m thinking of getting a 16 inch barrel and building a lighter weight upper for the match. Target distances will only be out to 700y and target are big by my standards. Is 16 inches enough length for this and what the best barrel for a balance of precision and weight?

Budget SPR 20 Round Groups

Rifle: Ballistic Advantage Upper with 18” SPR profile BA barrel in 5.56, Microbest BCG, Vector Continental 2-12, Aero M4e1 lower, Wilson Combat TTU trigger. Whole build is under $1k and the upper was only $275.

Ammo: image 1 is Defender Ammunition 77gr SMK Pro (86cpr), image 2 is IMI RazorCore 77gr. Both 20 round groups.

The defender group is awesome, and would be even better if I excluded the two right-most shots, which I called, as I shot them, as thrown by my lack of focus/discipline in the moment.

Just goes to show you don’t need to spend a fortune on gear to get good results. Next week will be my 6.5 creedmoor budget(ish) PRS build groups.

"We have the front door open, which is all glass. My other daughter came downstairs and saw a gentleman holding a safe in my front yard. He hit the ground. She thought the gentleman in the street was shooting at him, but apparently he was shooting back at the house. I saw someone come out of the house shooting."
