Do I still need to use a VPN/roaming with my eSIM?

I recently changed my service provider to Tello and am using their eSIM for my normal American number. When I get to China, I plan on getting a physical local SIM card put into my phone so I can have a Chinese phone number (I'll be staying for a year to study).

Now, will I still need a VPN app to access apps like TikTok/Instagram/etc., or use roaming data?

Finally got my Fudan language program admission…after getting my x1 for another language program…

As the title says, I was admitted into Fudan Universities language program after almost 2 months of being stuck in the 3rd document review stage. I was getting incredibly anxious during the wait, and because of this, I ended up submitting my visa application and getting it approved for a different school that accepted me earlier in Beijing. My question now is…can I still go to Fudan even though my initial visa application sighted the school in Beijing as my reason for getting the x1?

I’ve not sent tuition to either school yet, I just want to know what my options are and if I need to make any alterations to my visa info for Fudan!

What makes more sense when paying tuition fees?

Registration for my school isn’t until September 4th, and I’ll be leaving for China on August 25th to give myself time to settle myself before the school year begins, but I’m curious to know what might be best when it comes to sending my tuition payment.

Should I do a bank/swift transfer just before leaving my home country and eat the transfer fee, or should I wait and send the tuition from my Chinese bank account once I’ve opened it? I was planning on bringing cash that I’ll exchange for RMB, that way I’ll have something to deposit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Apartments/Leasing Agents in Haidian?

At the end of the month, I’ll be flying to Beijing and living there as an international student for the school year! I’m incredibly excited, and in preparation, I’d love to have any insight on apartments in the Haidian district- at most, all I need for myself is really just a studio/loft/1 bedroom with access to the trains and/or within decent walking distance so I can commute to school (I’ll be going to Beijing Film Academy, for reference!).

I’ve heard mixed reviews about ziroom, and I know LianJia is a good option, but I’d rather leave them as a later option as I’ve heard the realtor fee can be expensive sometimes. What other places should I be searching with??

Is it better to cancel and submit a new application or wait for a potential kick back?

I’ve been accepted into a year long language program at a Chinese University and today I finally started the visa process by submitting an application to my local consulate. I’m a bit nervous now, however, because after fully sending it in, I realized I mistyped the maximum duration of my stay for schooling…

Since it’s the weekend, my application won’t be looked at until Monday, so I’d have the time to resubmit with a correction, but is it worth it? Since it’s just the maximum days I messed up?? I may just be overthinking and panicking for nothing, but I’d like to be prepared just in case lol

Fudan University Chinese Language Program Admissions

Hello! I’m curious to know if anyone else who’s applied for Fudans 2026-2027 Chinese Language program has been formally accepted yet? My application has only recently been reviewed by staff, but I’ve now been stuck in the documentation review stage for the last week- I’m just a bit curious to know how long I should wait before sending an email to ask if there are any updates?

I’d assume I’d be getting an answer within the next week or so, I’m just getting a bit anxious since I know the visa process takes a little time and can only be initiated once I’ve been sent all the admissions documents needed for the visa. I want to make sure I have enough time to get everything in order ;u;

I got accepted into the BFA Language Bridging Program and want some extra insight

Hello! A few weeks ago, I received email confirmation + an official letter of acceptance to the Beijing Film Academy’s Language Bridging Program, and while I’m excited, I just wanted to see if any current or former international students might be able to share their experiences within this particular program/university? I have an interest in film/acting/the entertainment industry in general already, so being in that particular environment would be beneficial for me no matter what since I’d like to eventually apply for a bachelors program once I’m proficient enough in the language, but I’m curious as to what others might think!

BFA isn’t the only school with a language program I’ve applied to, but it’s the only one that’s given me an acceptance so far, so I just want to be prepared since that’s where I’ll be going if nowhere else admits me!
