Father Melley: Then I — I went blonde is in the eighties but who didn’t? (said to a bald man)

laugh track

Father Melley: Anyway, try the punch it’s divine

It’s the little things that make me laugh the hardest at this show.

And then finally the caramel erupts from the volcano cake and Doug is mesmerizing. The other exclaims:

Hey… This is a chocolate frosted couch pillow!

Season 7 Episode 5 “Name Dropper”

Doug goes to a work party that Carrie’s company is throwing and we find out that Doug is terrible at remembering names of people, something that really irritates Carrie. Things are running smoothly but Carrie is taken elsewhere by a coworker leaving Doug by himself, well Arthur is there too but we don’t really notice him. One of Carrie’s coworkers notices Doug and waves him down, this causes Doug to panic. The coworker, Molly walks over and begins talking to Doug and just as its about to finish without Doug never asking her name Arthur shows up and says: Douglas, aren’t you going to introduce me? Doug fakes the heart attack and that is that.

Eventually all is revealed, Doug faked the heart attack and Carrie got mad. Carrie goes back to work and runs into her boss Mr. Dugan who is played by John Getz who played the arrogant editor in the 1986 rendition of The Fly, a fact that does nothing for this post but wanted to through it out there in case anyone reading this wanted to know if he was in anything else. Mr Dugan enters the office and begins talking to Carrie about Doug’s test results.

When Mr. Dugan asks how Doug is doing, Carrie responds:

 “Oh, he’s much better now.”

Dugan then asks what the hospital diagnosed, and Carrie says:

 “Oh, it was just indigestion.”

When he questions that, she elaborates:

“Yeah. Yeah. Gas. A lot of gas. They said it was like ten people’s worth. But he’s okay now. He’s okay now.”

That explanation unexpectedly becomes very personal for Mr. Dugan. He tells Carrie that a doctor once diagnosed his father with indigestion too. A week later, Dugan and his father were playing badminton when Dugan sent a high shot over the net. His father suddenly died before he could return it. Dugan finishes the story with the brilliantly dark line: I won the point. But lost my dad.

During that monologue the camera does something I’ve never seen the show do, the camera begins to slowly move or tighten in on him, I looked up what the technical name for that shot is and the only thing I found was slow zoom or push-in.

I thought it was worth noting. The King of Queens has unusually loose continuity, even by sitcom standards. The writers generally prioritized whatever made the current episode funniest rather than maintaining a perfectly consistent history, something to me that makes the show unique.

The Ace Hardware that accepts cryptocurrency payments, KAS included

I know, big deal but the thing that struck me as awesome was while yes, it was listed under additional currencies it still was shown and didn’t have to be found by searching. Not a huge victory but still awesome nonetheless. Slow and steady.
