I'm so sorry, I feel so dumb asking but HOW do people get different colours of common rarity cats???

Common cats (folded ears) use raw ingredients if I understand correctly, and different coloured cats need certain recipe items, but combos that aren't a known recipes will be a common moon cat... so how does one get, say, a common spiny cat???

I feel like I'm pulling my hair out, I've read so many charts and posts about the cats but I feel like I only ever see people talk about uncommon and higher rarities??
