Debating on which programs to focus on applying to

Hey yall,

Graduated with my MS in Criminology and CJ in 2021 and then life happened and I couldn’t commit to PhD at the time. I have since found myself regretting it and wishing I had gone back, even more so now that I’m teaching criminal justice and sociology courses at a small local 4yr university as adjunct. I am officially diving in for real.

I never considered the possibility of Sociology as my PhD route, as my passion has always been specifically Criminology but I’m finding that there is a lot of opportunity for me to go Sociology and specialize or concentrate with criminological related research interests.

I have found two Sociology programs that I’m interested in, one of which is so close to home I wouldn’t even have to move and the other 3 hours away, and two Criminology programs, both around 4+ hours away.

I guess my question is - are there broader benefits to taking the Sociology route over Criminology? Has anyone chosen Soc over Crim for similar reasons? I have found points of contact for my specific research interests at every program, so that’s not really the problem. Just curious to see what some other thoughts were.

Officially decided to get my PhD

I graduated in 2021 with my Master of Science in Criminology and have been debating doctorate since before I even got my Bachelors. I finally decided to go back to get my PhD in Sociology, looking at starting Fall ‘27 (KU and K State leading by research I’ve done) but does anyone have any advice they would offer me now that I’m serious about? Contacting the program, letters of recommendation, application stuff, etc? Trying not to overwhelm myself as this decision has been a long time coming but really want to be prepared! Would love to hear things you did that helped, things you wish you would have done, etc.

I want to add that I have been working at a non-profit in Violence Prevention since 2022 and have been teaching adjunct criminal justice and sociology at a local private university since 2024 - just as a measure of experience.

Thanks yall!

Morton Ampitheatre Accessibility Question

I just recently had surgery and will be on a knee scooter for a concert coming up at Morton. On the website, I can’t find much info aside from we will hold mobility devices for you bc you can’t have them with you or contact us and we’ll move your seats but I don’t want to get separated from my group. Has anyone dealt with something similar at Morton? Just don’t want to waste my time and am genuinely curious as to what the actual best route is.

Thanks in advance

Ankle arthroscopy nerve sensations???

update: one of my best friends is in his ortho surgical residency and said “girl loosen it” and walked me through how to do it safely. INSTANT RELIEF! thanks for being a sounding board!

had an ankle arthroscopy last Monday (so 5+ days of recovery so far) and I think my nerve block wore off somewhere between 24-30 hrs. the pain wasn’t a super big issue after (I did have to stop taking the pain medications bc my stomach simply couldn’t handle them) but within the last day or so i’ve been getting these nerve sensations that are driving me INSANE. my heel feels like it’s burning, certain movements feels the same way you do when you hit your elbow. I’ve read that nerve sensations are normal because of the pressure from the splint, blood flow regulation, etc. but oh my god I am losing my mind. I still have two weeks left of this splint too!!! did anyone else experience this and find certain things helpful? trying to wiggle my toes or bend my knee, keeping my ankle elevated 95% of the time too.
