We have run into a little bit of financial issues as of late and need to get our dog in for his annual wellness exam. He is on medication for anxiety. At our appointment last year, it was $600 for all the vaccinations, heartworm/fecal testing/bloodwork, flea/tick meds/ and wellness exam.

PRKC has the wellness package for $200 that includes a lot of that but looks like they don’t prescribe things like anxiety meds. Does anyone do something like that and then just go to the vet for the annual exam (this one is $61) and medication prescriptions? I feel like it would be cheaper but I’m not sure my vet would accept that? I will call and ask, but I wanted to see if anyone has experience doing that and if it worked. Thanks

I know the title sounds like I’m about to trash construction workers, but I honestly want to learn the answer to this question.

Every time the topic of data centers comes up, the proponents are quick to bring up the “hundreds” or “thousands” of jobs that they will create. When you look into the details, however, there are always just a handful of people who will actually be hired to operate the data center. The other 99% of jobs “created” are from the construction workers who will be paid to build it.

Isn’t it misleading to refer to these as “new” jobs? After all, the people who will be contracted to build the data center are going to be people who are already active in the construction industry. If there isn’t any data center contract, then these workers will just be on some other building project instead. There’s always something being built somewhere, so the data center itself isn’t accomplishing anything special, right?

Along those same lines, when the construction is finished, the workers move on to the next project, which is probably going to be in a completely different area. So isn’t it also disingenuous to make it sound like all of these jobs are going to that city/county? Nobody is about to buy a house and move their family there just to build a data center, right? The local gas stations and fast food places might see an uptick, but otherwise the economic development (outside of the data center itself) is going to be negligible. And once the workers leave, that’s it… all of those “new jobs” are gone.

If I’m way off base about this, please help me understand. Are these data center construction contracts really important enough for politicians to tout them as a key reason for supporting the development?

I'm a former city employee who calls bullshit on this claim. To Melissa: Lady, you headed up the corrupt communication dept that hid things from and lied to the media to hide stories from the public. You surprised staff voices when they brought forth valid concerns. That's why you got fired. Stop trying to shift the blame from you and your buddy, Brian Platt and go back to Jersey. You lost because you broke city policy and infringed on people's first amendment rights. Go back to Jersey and leave KC. Stop costing this city money and further sullying the city's already terrible reputation with your corruptness!" There's no reason for hardworking KC tax payers to pay the grifters from Jersey anymore! Unbelievable. I'd love to share details to the media about the corrupt requests she sent me to reallocate city grant funds BACK TO THE CITY. I'm sure there's other employees willing to speak out.

Hey all. New to the KC area after moving from Emporia. In the past I've been huge into eSports and gaming. And was wondering if there are any groups in KC that meet up to compete/play.

I’ve got a 6 year old Golden Retriever who is prone to yeast infections in her ears. I’ve seen 2 vets now at the same clinic and the infections still are reoccurring. Just seeing what my options are as my dog’s Vet is leaving the clinic we currently go to. If anyone with a golden (or pup with allergies) has found a vet they love please let me know!

Shaking my fist at a cloud here, but we're moving from our shitty overpriced apartment this summer and the house rental market for anything under 1.8k is abysmal closer to the city. But even worse is requiring booking tours through Rently, with no option to schedule directly through the management company or owner!!

Why do I need to pay for the privilege of touring your property?? I know it's not for "security" purposes, as they already require you to upload a government ID and matching photo. These aren't million dollar mansions in HCOL areas either, these are 2 bedroom houses renting for 1.6k! I feel like there should be a legal requirement to allow scheduling directly through the management/owner as an alternative to giving your cc info out or paying meaningless fees, but again - ranting at clouds.

Obviously I know I could find super cheap rental houses further away from the city but I'm truly not interested in living in those areas 🤷‍♀️

We're having a weird issue with my husbands urologist.

Originally they sent his prescription to a compounding pharmacy and they insisted that it would be significantly cheaper than going through our insurance. We dumbly believed them. Long story short, we found out our insurance covers the prescription for about $7 for a two month supply if we go through a local pharmacy. The compounding pharmacy is over $100 for the same amount.

The urologist refuses to let us get the RX at a local pharmacy and use our insurance. It feels like they must be getting kick backs from the compounding pharmacy. Honestly it's beyond frustrating. The appointments are expensive already, and we pay for insurance but they want to force us not to use the benefits of it.

Anyone know of a urologist that won't do this compounding pharmacy stuff?

TO BE CLEAR: The medication is NOT compounded. It is literally stocked at every local pharmacy and our insurance covers it.

I've been interested in trying Thick Pizza, a Detroit-style pizza place that seems to have opened in Strawberry Hill in February. The hours are quite limited: M-F 11am-2pm, closed weekends.

I was hoping to finally try them on Memorial Day since I'll be off work, but I can't seem to find whether they'll be open, and nobody picks up the phone number listed. Anyone know anything about them, or whether they're just permanently dunzo?

I'm helping promote a cool event in Kansas City this summer but we're a small arts nonprofit so we don't have a ton of money to throw at advertising. We'll advertise in The Pitch and some social media. But I want to know: where do you go to find out about events?

I'm currently driving all over town putting up flyers in coffee shops and other stores and i don't even know if people look at those anymore.
