Paracentesis experience?

Hi all. Mums been booked in for her first ever drain on Friday morning. She wants to go in blind but I’m a massive preparer and hate being blindsided.

What’s your past experiences of drains? I’ve read some people are in agony the first day or so afterwards.

I get married next year and we’re supposed to go shopping for my dress the next day, but I’m not sure whether to cancel and do another day if she’ll be in too much pain.

I want her to enjoy this as much as me. She never got to do it. She’s a very talented seamstress and was so insecure when she got married she made her own dress. It’s been the one thing she’s always said she wants to do.

This day has been in the calendar for a while as my future in-laws are in the country (they live abroad.) it is possible to do it next week but with mum having a 6-12 month prognosis I feel like I’ve got to have my foot on the gas pedal and do everything while I can.

I know the drain is likely to make her feel much better. They’ll be trying her on water tablets afterwards to try keep the water off. I’m also terrified. I just don’t want her in pain or to feel poorly. I know it’s all because of the alcoholism but I just want my mama back. 😢

Feeling hopeless. If you self cured please tell me.

Hi All, need a vent and let off a bit of steam.

Not been doing so well lately, permanently stressed because of several big things happening in life all at the same time.

Also diagnosed with Orthostatic Hypotension March last year, pretty much had dysautonomia all my life which got worse post covid.

Discovered Roemheld syndrome the other day which I believe is potentially the reason behind everything and got a bee in my bonnet about self curing my R-CPD.

I’m heavily stressed - aerophagia - the air pressure nudges my vagus nerve and sends my body into more panic - swallow more air - misery - more stress.. etc.

Being emetophobic really isn’t helping. I have next to no hunger cues anymore which means I barely eat, I get constipated, that doesn’t help the reflux and it’s just so aggravating.

Sometimes I struggle with the shakers because of dizziness. Being hyper-vigilant all the time has lead me to feel like I have my head in a fishbowl most of the time. Visual disturbances, sensations like about to fall / I’m floating. Just general derealisation. So tilting my head back and forth and side to side some days makes me worse. Don’t get me started on the sleep issues too..

To top it all off I’m petrified of the Botox, I know there’s probably substantially more complaints than there are success stories, but I scare myself going down the rabbit hole so I’ve kinda got my blinkers on and I’m adamant I’ll treat myself.. somehow.

Just any words of wisdom at this point will be greatly appreciated. I’m at my wits end of feeling like rubbish every day.
