So, I’ve been watching game recaps from the 2024 and 2025 cup runs. The way our team has been playing, despite being only like 60% healthy, makes me extremely excited to not only see how they play when 90-100% healthy, but also how they play next spring. I haven’t been able to watch live games in two years, so maybe that plays a role as well.

So here’s my question: what was your favourite game/moment from those two runs? Obviously, we all wish winning the cup would be the one. Tbh, it’s still hard to watch the cup final games lol. But it’s good to look back at the entire run and see the amazing moments that happened.

I think the entire Oilers/Canucks series in 2024 was my favourite. Halfway through, it felt like just another year of mediocre play exposing our flaws. But the last half of it was so exciting and felt so good to beat them and move on. My runner up would be probably game 6 of the 2024 cup finals. That was a surreal feeling, despite the disappointment that followed.

So what’s yours? I’d love to know!

I am a 26 year old indigenous college student. I attend a First Nations institution that holds a lot of dedicated and intelligent minds of all ages from reserves all around the province. When I go to the school, despite the difficult curriculum, I am proud and feel like I am a part of a beautiful community that is making a difference for not only this generation, but the ones going forward.

But it’s not all gold. And we all know that.

I also happen to live off of 20th street, and have to take the 2 to get to and from classes.

The effects of what happened to my people are quite evident just by going downtown. Not all are victims, they made their choices. Drugs, gangs, substances of all kinds. And it’s quite evident a vast majority are indigenous people. Most with seemingly no hope to get over their crutches. Some seem to want to make a ruckus and try and bring down whomever is around them.

It’s frustrating to see.

So my question is this,

Those of race other than aboriginal, heck even the First Nations who are making a life for themselves, be honest; how much do these addicts and hooligans stain the look of natives to you?

You don’t have to tell your race, but be 100% honest. I won’t push back on them or anything. I simply want to see what you think.

I for one am frustrated by it, and feel they bring a bad name to the ones who are in school making a life for themselves. But I know it’s a problem that can’t be fixed overnight. Nor is it an excused one.

EDIT: Great responses, everyone. I love hearing opinions from every side of life here in this city. I moved provinces from BC for health reasons, and now I consider this city home. A lot of that comes from the people I’ve met from all sorts of origins. I myself do not look at colour and assume anything, and it’s heartwarming to know I am not alone despite hardships making it easy to.

So much discourse, dooming, controversy.

I am just excited to see a rested team take off with a big chip on their shoulders.

Most of all, I’m just excited to see Oilers hockey. I can’t be the only one, hey?

I know it’s way too early, especially with the moves teams have made the last few months. But still, just based on the eye test and history, which teams in the east and west (west especially) are you most worried about the Oilers facing next spring? For me, it’s probably Vegas and Minnesota. But I’m interested in your thoughts.

Tbh? I’m really excited to see how our d-core plays out. This has to be the first time I’ve said that in……….. you get the point.

It’s not that I think Nurse was the ultimate cancer for our defense. He was 100% a great locker presence that I think the team will miss. But you can definitely tell he was mentally checked out a lot since he was (at times justifiably) the scapegoat for when things went wrong.

But we have a REALLY solid core going into the season. Bouch and Ekholm will be the usual top 2 I trust. Walman, Murphy, Shea. The only thing I’m worried for is Jake’s health. But, I feel like we have a really solid core that hopefully Babcock can get a good system going with.

I’m really excited for Savoie and McDavid’s chemistry to build. It would be really nice to have a bonafide top 6 scorer along with Hyman, but I loved what I saw from Matt last year.

Also our goalie system doesn’t look directionless for the first time a while. I feel like Levi will learn a lot from Freddy.

The only outlier that I’m hesitant for is Babcock. But the players know more than we do, so it remains to be seen.

I’m excited for the season. How about you guys? Feel free to pick out anything I said, I really want to hear your opinion!

He’s dropped out of the top 10 for goalie prospects. And he hasn’t had a very good pedigree with Buffalo since he’s been in the league. But that’s only been through like 40 total games. He’s had a pretty good AHL career and he’s only 24. His pre-NHL career was pretty impressive. If he’s mentored under someone like Freddie, do you think it’ll help him grow? I mean, if he develops well over the next few years, he could be a real good piece for EDM. But that’s a lot of if’s, the same if’s we gave Skinner, Campbell, and Jarry.

I’m optimistic, I feel like playing with a good, established environment will help a lot.

How do ya’ll feel? Very interested.

I’ve seen him make some really good plays this year, but I’ve also seen him slip up and play Edmonton defense. But do you think he’ll step up a bit more this year with Nurse gone? (given we don’t trade for another dman.) I didn’t hate the signing when it happened. And it’s not like he’s a pylon. I’m just wondering.

Hey guys, I’m wanting to read Heat 2, but I haven’t read Heat 1. I’ve seen the movie a bunch, but haven’t read the book. Would it be detrimental to the story to skip the book 📕 and read Heat 2?

EDIT: Part of me wants to delete this… but no I need to 1000% take this L lmao. I saw Heat and Heat 2 on my books app… and then looked again after these comments and saw Heat was an entirely different book. 🤦‍♂️ I deserve these roasts lmao but thank you guys for the good laugh. I’ll read Heat 3 first instead lmaoo
