Questions about appraising jewelry

So, in the past 2 years or so I’ve started basically running my family’s pawnshop. I absolutely adore the business but I would like to expand our jewelry more. I have buying scrap gold etc down to a science and I can almost estimate prices on some larger diamond rings. My question is right now if someone has a really special ring I know is worth much more than gold value I’d like to be able to give them a more fair price. Also it would greatly help me in pricing my jewelry where/how would be a good place to learn to appraise jewelry I struggle with gem stones and estimating the karat weight and quality of diamonds/gem stones. This may be a waste of time but out of all the items we do I’ve absolutely fell in love with jewelry I’ve learned so so much in a short period of time. I’m blessed to have some great mentors but for the most part it’s just me trying to figure all this out. The pawn business can be very overwhelming lol. I’ve expanded the business a great bit in these short 2 years we’ve been open since 1999 but there’s so much I’ve yet to tap into. Such as online sales opening my options to more items etc etc but jewelry is something I would love to shift some of my focus towards. Sorry for the bad grammar and rambling any advice would be greatly appreciated. ❤️
