Looking for honest opinions from young people in Rwanda about digital skills & video editing

I'm a video editor and content strategist who has been working with international clients and earning online in dollars for the past few years. I recently moved to Rwanda to build a business here.

Since arriving in Kigali, I've noticed that many young people have good access to the internet and technology, but aren't necessarily aware of the different ways they can use digital skills to build careers or earn online.

I'm considering starting a practical, in-person video editing and content creation program in Kigali, but before I build it, I want to know if there's actually a need for it.

If you're a young Rwandan, I'd love your honest thoughts:

1. Have you ever wanted to learn video editing/content creation? If not, why?

2. What's the biggest thing stopping you from learning?
(Cost, laptop, not knowing where to start, time, software, etc.)

3. Would you prefer learning through YouTube, an online course, or in-person training?

4. If you learned video editing, what would you want to use it for?
(Freelancing, content creation, getting a job, starting a business, etc.)

5. If there were a 4-week practical program in Kigali where you actually worked on projects and got feedback, what would make it worth paying for—and roughly how much would you be willing to pay?**

I'm genuinely doing market research here, not selling anything. So feel free to tell me if you think the idea is unnecessary or there's already enough training available.

I'd especially love to hear from students, recent graduates, freelancers and aspiring creators.

Where do young people in Kigali actually meet? 🇷🇼

I’m 23, male, originally from Cameroon 🇨🇲, I’m a freelancer and I recently moved to Rwanda to start a business.

I’m trying to meet more young people here, make genuine friends, and hopefully meet someone I can potentially build a romantic relationship with and also teach me kinyarwanda. 😅

I’m not interested in dating apps/sites. I’d much rather meet people naturally through communities, events, activities, churches, sports, creative spaces, cafés, volunteering, etc.

So, where do young Rwandans and other young people in Kigali actually hang out and meet new people?

I’d really appreciate specific places, events, communities, or activities I should check out. Bonus points if you’ve actually met good friends/partners there. 😂

I’ll also appreciate if anyone is willing to invite me or take me to any of such events or communities.
