Mac mini M4 - Random wired mouse stuttering & keyboard disconnecting. Anyone else?
Hi everyone,
I'm having a strange issue with my Mac mini M4 and I'm trying to figure out if it's a hardware problem, a macOS bug, or something related to USB.
Symptoms
- Wired Dell mouse suddenly starts stuttering/jittering when moving the cursor.
- Wired Dell keyboard randomly disconnects and stops responding for a few seconds.
- It happens randomly, not under heavy workload.
- A restart usually fixes it temporarily, but the issue comes back.
Setup
- Mac mini M4
- Latest macOS
- Wired Dell USB mouse and keyboard
- I also use an external SSD for development, but the issue seems random.
What I've tried
- Restarting the Mac
- Reconnecting the USB devices
- Testing different USB ports
I'm planning to test with another mouse and keyboard and also disconnect all external USB devices to rule out a hardware conflict.
Has anyone experienced something similar on an M4 Mac mini? Was it caused by:
- a faulty USB controller,
- a macOS update,
- an external SSD or USB hub,
- or failing peripherals?
Any suggestions for additional troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
