22 June 2026 - Public Beta Update

Hi all -

We have updated the Sea Power Public Beta branch today. This update includes:

  • First draft of an overall rework of submarine behavior, providing more intelligent and dangerous enemy submarines
  • New slider controls for setting exact speed and altitude for units
  • Another pass on weapons and acoustics for individual units
  • Updates to Mission Editor: deeper customization of Stores Editor (allowing configuration of exact missiles inside magazines, etc) and new trigger actions to enable/disable unit systems

This update also adds the correct "long hull" variant of the later Oliver Hazard Perry class frigates. Note: this necessitated a change to the ship class variants file, which could alter the ships present in user-created missions. Please review any missions you have created that feature specific Perry class frigates as these will need to be updated!

Clarification on third-party asset mods and recent comment removals (WW2 mod)

Hi all -

I want to clarify recent moderation decisions from the past few days (specifically around the WW2 mod screenshot threads) and explain a new subreddit rule that has been added.

Some recent comments were removed (by me) because they linked to mods containing ripped commercial assets from other games. This is not meant to punish general mod discussion as Sea Power has a creative and active modding scene which we have encouraged.

However, the official Sea Power NCMA subreddit cannot be used as a distribution point for mods that contain ripped assets from other commercial games, or other unauthorized third-party work. To make that clearer, I have added a new rule:

>No Distribution of Mods Containing Third-Party Assets
Do not post download links, installation instructions, or distribution channels for mods that contain ripped assets taken from other commercial games or other third-party works. Discussion of modding is welcome, but the official Sea Power subreddit is not a distribution point for unauthorized third-party assets.

This is separate from our existing No Piracy rule. That original rule is designed to cover pirated copies of Sea Power or other games. The new rule is specifically meant to cover mods that distribute ripped commercial assets, even if those mods are free.

Again, we are not interested in policing what people do privately with their own game installs or discuss on modding servers such as BuOrd, but we need to keep this subreddit clear of links or instructions that distribute this content.

Going forward, please keep mod discussion here focused on original work, authorized content, or general modding topics. If there are concerns around a specific post, report it or send modmail. Thanks in advance!

17 June 2026 - Public Beta Update

Hi all -

We have updated the Public Beta branch today.

This is a fairly large update but it has been some time since we updated, so there are quite a bit of content and changes included here. Some of the bigger items are continued aircraft handling/performance improvements, a major round of sonar/acoustic/submarine updates, revised torpedo behavior, and a large number of weapon, sensor, unit, and loadout updates.

This update also includes the new binocular/periscope optical view modes and the new "map view" format for Linear Campaigns. The game's existing campaigns have been updated to function in the new map view but please report any issues you encounter here. Task Force Mode is not included in this update as we expect to release the new mode in late June/early July.

Also included are updates to how messages are shown in-game, with several new message formatting options added into the Mission Editor. These include:

  • Intro/Outro messages which append the scenario objective status
  • Naval Messages which mimic period-accurate message traffic and include a teletype effect
  • Notification messages which appear at bottom left of the screen intended for radio messages or smaller mission updates

There are also quite a few visual and scenario-building improvements in this build, including flickering lights when power is lost/restored, land unit damage and kill effects, bridge collapse effects, and a large new set of civilian fishing vessels from the art team for more variety in scenarios.

Sea Power Development Report - June 2026

Hi all -

Our June 2026 development report has been posted on Steam. We have updated the Early Access roadmap, and there are some important changes:

  • Royal Navy release moves to September 2026, but gains a 1982 Falklands campaign, and will now include the Argentina faction.
  • Dynamic Campaign phase 1 is now planned for end of 2026.
  • Our next campaign will be Pacific Strike '85, built on the new Task Force Mode campaign framework.

Hi all -

We have updated the Public Beta branch today.

We are beginning to introduce fixes for aircraft performance and behavior. These changes are included here with more to come. We have also reworked the Options menu, and moved all camera controls into a new Camera Controls UI accessible from a new button at bottom right in-game.

This update includes new key binds for some of the more commonly used actions (sensors/EMCON, ROE, Flight Deck, Event Log, etc). This necessitated a refresh of controls, so players will see a warning dialogue on first open with the new beta. Your previous control scheme will be saved off, but please note that some custom key binds may be lost.

New items in this update include: Japanese and Australian-accented English voiceovers for those units, added AI capability to use jammers offensively, and several new units and scenery objects have been included. Please see the changelog for detailed notes.
