Osteoarthritis at 28

I have moderate osteoarthritis in my left STT joint. I currently work at an animal shelter and have been there for 2 years, but have worked in the animal care industry for many years and suspect some of that is what contributed to having osteoarthritis already.

I actually got my first cortisone injection today, but I know they’re not good to get multiple times. I’ve kind of accepted that I may need to find a new job because my current one is the main cause of my flare ups and I’m currently out of work for a couple of weeks due to that. I will likely be getting an interview for a 911 call taker position, but after talking to my mom about it, I’m feeling worried that it won’t be any better for my hand.

I’m just feeling a little lost I guess. I love the job I have now, it pays great and I was hoping to stay there for a while but can’t keep messing up my body. It’s hard enough finding a job without having restrictions on what kind of work I can do. I guess I’m wondering what has worked for others as far as employment if you have osteoarthritis specifically in your hand/wrist?

TIA!

Good Cortisone Injection Stories

Hello!

I’m just hoping to read some positive cortisone injection stories before I go to sleep to cleanse my palette…..

I’m only 28 and had an MRI on Sunday on my left hand and it turns out I have moderate osteoarthritis in my STT joint. I’m going to get my first cortisone injection tomorrow and have been seeing way too many stories about how terrible and bad it hurts so I’m wondering if there’s anyone that has had a better experience? I hate needles and I’m honestly terrified of my appointment tomorrow lol.

EDIT: just got my injection and i feel so dumb for being that anxious about it! It was so easy and in my opinion a lot easier than a blood draw. My hand already feels relief, hoping I can get a decent amount of time out of this injection!
