Hi all! I just moved into a new apartment with my partner and we’re looking for your help mapping out my living room… more specifically the seating arrangements.

The room is small and has a lot of doors. It’ll primarily be used by my partner and I watching tv, but also for gathering with friends so a clever way to maximize seating and tv viewing/comfort would be ideal. We’ll be buying new furniture but I’m struggling to find a solution to keep all the doors accessible and not jam the room packed with furniture. We love the idea of a sectional for our uses, but obviously the wish for a large sectional will not be coming true in this apartment. I don’t want to box in the space too much since my office is accessible this room (the open door to the right of the bay windows).

I feel like there isn’t a “perfect spot” for any pice of furniture in this room so I think I need to commit to the placement of something and then try to work from there. Any input about where a certain piece of furniture should or shouldn’t go is appreciated.

There’s a lot of natural light so I’m not opposed to covering the bottoms of the windows with furniture. So far I’ve considered a few options:
- A couch/loveseat on the longest wall, tv across, and a chair or two in the bay window area. Challenges with this are the tv won’t be centered to the couch (to the couch OR the wall) and I feel that walking into the room to the arm of a couch might not be a great experience?
- A larger couch in front of the bay windows and the tv across on a swivel mount. Challenges with this are the tv placement is kind of goofy, and obviously blocking the bay windows feels mildly like a sin.
- A small sectional with chaise positioned in some way.
- Just commit to a 3 seat modular couch and floating ottoman and see what works, even pull the middle piece out to be like a chair if needed.

Open to all ideas! The only item that is confirmed for this room is a 55” tv (50” wide). I have an old 6ft beanbag that could maybe fit in the bay windows, but I’d need a solid design to convince my partner that it belongs lol. Mini splits are being installed so the baseboard heaters will no longer be used and can be covered.

The floorplan included is as accurate as I could get. The rod on the floor in the photos is placed at a 95” length from the far corner.

**EDIT: typo for the tv width, it’s 50 inches wide not 60. I’d rather not have to buy a new tv on top of all the furnishings (funny how the only living room item I own that has survived roommate living is a ~apparently~ too large tv), but if a smaller one would fit better I’m open to it!

The floorplan included has the correct shape and dimensions, but it’s not to scale, missing a window, and the doors are placed kind of funky.
