Advice on furniture arrangement for cozy home!

I cannot decide how to layout my furniture (in my currently messy house). Have 2 cats and a dog, as well as regular nephew visits.

Would love advice on furniture arrangement and if there’s anything DIY / cheaper I could add to make this space more cozy and home-y.

Help with my somewhat awkward living room

This is my first time using Reddit, but I hear that it is a great place to turn to. I just moved into a new place and this is the living room. I can’t figure out how to do the layout for the life of me. I don’t really want a massive TV on one side and seating on the other side, but I guess I can suffice to it if it comes to it.
Things that I don’t have yet include a coffee table, a TV, probably another lamp, a treadmill, and any random decor things that seem necessary. In my old apartment, I had a gallery wall, which I will try to find a picture of and I would love to have that again . In the dining area, I have a whole bunch of plates that I want to put up, which I will also try to find a picture of.
Please feel free to suggest anything at all!

Layout dilemma, what room should be living & dining?

I’m buying a house and I have two rooms that could each work as either a dining room or living room, and I’m stuck.

Here’s the situation:
• Room A (front) smaller, less natural light, vaulted ceilings
• Room B (back) bigger, more windows, better light
• Kitchen opens directly to Room A
My instinct says: living room in Room A (up front, welcoming for guests) and dining in Room B (the bigger, brighter room. I like the idea of walking into a living room but

The problem: that puts the kitchen opening into the living room, when functionally it makes way more sense for the kitchen to open into the dining room.

Note; I am buying this house and moving in with almost no furniture. And I know very little about design choices or what’ll look/feel mo better.e

Need layout ideas for my bedroom (300 x 370 cm)

Hello everyone! I need your creative ideas to figure out the best layout for my new bedroom. I've drawn a detailed floor plan with all measurements in centimeters.

Room Details:

My Needs & Furniture:

Dimensions: 300 cm × 370 cm

Window: It is almost zero to the floor. The top-right section opens inward.

Curtain Pelmet: There is a 30 cm curtain pelmet/recess at the top, but I'd prefer not to use it if it gets in the way.

Outlets: Outlets and ethernet ports are marked on the sketch.

Bed: I'm planning to get a 140 × 200 cm (Double) bed. If it's too tight for the layout, I can scale down to a 120 × 200 cm ( Double) bed Desk: I definitely need a study/work desk in this room.

Wardrobe: I need a wardrobe for clothes.

Bookcase/Storage: I'd love to have a bookcase. If a standalone bookcase doesn't fit, I'm totally open to smart storage solutions (like wall-mounted shelves or under-bed storage) instead.

How would you arrange this furniture to keep the room functional and not too cramped? Any sketch or layout ideas would be highly appreciated! Thank you!

Any Suggestions for a Better Studio Layout

I just moved into a studio and I cannot figure out a layout that maximizes space and doesn’t feel cluttered. It comes furnished, so that is all the furniture I have now, but I will be adding a cat tree. Any suggestions on how to move the furniture to make it better? Ideally I’d like to keep my bed by the window but I’m open to other ideas too. The pic is a general layout , but my unit has the kitchen and bathroom on the opposite sides.

Need help arranging limited furniture in a large space

My flatmate moved out along with most of the living room decor items, so now my living room/kitchen/dining area feels so empty. With no TV or plants, I hate sitting on the couch and staring at a huge blank wall. I am also moving out soon, so I am reluctant to buy much to fill the room. The kitchen runs along one entire wall, so I've sketched out a walking zone to keep relatively clear (but not mandatory). There are sliding doors on the other wall, with full height windows on either side. Items:

  • L-shaped couch (cannot make the L the other way)
  • round rug that fits in front of the couch
  • dining table and chairs (table is 120x80cm)
  • shoe rack (I want to keep this where I placed it in the floorplan)
  • bookshelf (wifi modem plugs in here, so ideally want to keep the shelf there to put it on)
  • I am potentially open to buying a coffee table or side table or another bookshelf

I would greatly appreciate any ideas on how I can arrange these items or make any cheap purchases to make this space feel more inviting!

Does it make sense to detach the sofa from the wall if the rom is small?

I am moving in a new house and I am testing several options. How do you feel about the one I selected? Don’t mind the very large door, in reality it is just a wall opening (not an actual door)

Bedroom layout help for my PC setup & wardrobe

Hey guys, I need advice on where to put my PC desk and clothes cabinet.

PC Desk options: Top arrow (across from the bed), top-left arrow, or bottom-left arrow?

Cabinet: It will go in whichever left-wall spot the desk doesn't take.

(Note: The door on the right side leads to a balcony since I'm on an upper floor).

Current Issue: Right now, the desk is at the bottom-left. It's inconvenient because my UPS cable doesn't reach the outlet, so I have a side table sticking out to elevate it. Moving the desk might help me tuck the side table and UPS neatly underneath.

Do you recommend the current setup, and I just deal with it, or are the other spots better?

What do I do with this awful layout for the bedroom?

I’m at a complete loss with what to do, as the house I’m living in has an awful layout in general, but the bedroom is so small it’s hard to figure out how to fit anything in. This is the only bedroom on the ground floor, we have a finished cellar with a bedroom that’s much bigger but has one of those “fake windows” and the air quality is worse so we’re using this as the main bedroom. We have a king sized mattress (just moved in, no frame), and would like to fit a wardrobe in, we were thinking maybe one with sliding doors to save space, but it still feels so crammed in here. We were also thinking about having a dresser by the window and to maybe fit a collapsible desk or something like that? Please help me figure how to make this space work, any suggestions really help!

Struggling with my small living room layout/vibe — any ideas?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been struggling with the layout and overall vibe of my living room for a while and could really use some outside perspective/inspiration.

I attached some photos of the space. It’s on the smaller side, so I’m trying to make it feel cozy and intentional without making it feel cluttered.

Style-wise I’m into warm, moody interiors with plants, ambient lighting, natural wood, and Japandi/mid-century influences. I really like cozy evening vibes with warm lamps.

A few things:
I’m getting curtains soon

Open to buying new furniture

Would love more wall decor/plants

Trying to make the living + dining area feel cohesive

Don’t want the space to feel overcrowded

Right now it just feels a bit unfinished.

Would love any ideas for:
layout

lighting

wall decor

plants

furniture/decor pieces

overall vibe

Any inspiration or suggestions are appreciated 🙏

wanting to update bedroom/office layout

trying to refresh my bedroom, but I feel limited with the floor vent in front of my window, and the unusable space around the main & closet doors. I’ve drafted a few ideas with the furniture i have now & am curious which option (if any) would make the space feel more open & functional since I WFH and need my desk in my bedroom. ideas on furniture to help maximize storage would help as well since my closet is pretty crammed with clothes & hobby supplies. layout 2 is most similar to my current layout, but i have the position of desk and cubbies swapped (photo taken from what’d be the upper-right corner in sketches). I tried to make everything to scale to the 12’x10’ room. I will also be taking down shelves & posters to either replace or re-arrange, so I am also thinking about painting whole room, or adding wallpaper to one wall while stuff is down

Sectional? Or no sectional?

We are looking at the Radley 5-Pc. Fabric Chaise Sectional Sofa from Macy’s

I personally think it will look too big but husband believes it’s perfect

Need thoughts from neutral parties

Planning one room as multipurpose utility also.

- projector (motorised screen)
- yoga and light workout area
- a mini bar setup
- all my painting supplies
Great speakers
Mood lighting
Sofa cum bed

Any more design, aesthetic, utility ideas are much appreciated. Thanks! ❣️✨

Advice on Room Layout for Berliner Altbau

Hey everyone,
I just moved into my new flat in Berlin and I’m working with a pretty massive blank canvas for my living room (approx. 6.80m x 5.20m). The ceilings are 3.35m high, which is amazing, but I’m struggling to find the "perfect" layout to fill the room.

Here’s what I’m working with:
The Room: 6.80m length vs. 5.30m width. Huge window front facing West (255°).

Dining Table (170x100), a 2.60m Sofa, a 2.20m sideboard, and a 2.45m shelve.

Office: 1.60m desk. I spend 8+ hours here daily.

My dilemma:
Right now, my desk is tucked into a darker corner. I like the current flow, but I’m not 100% happy with the "dark corner" vibe for work. On the other hand, I don’t want to face the massive West-facing window directly because of the glare during the afternoon.
Also, cable management is my nemesis. With two monitors, I’m not sure about moving the desk away from a wall and exposing the mess.

What would you do? I’m looking for feedback and alternative suggestions for layouts.

Also, the walls are still empty as I’m waiting for my paintings to arrive, so ignore the "bare" look for now. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Hellooo! I’d really appreciate some help with the layout for bedroom 3 (marked on the floorplan).
It’s on the smaller side, so I’m trying to make it feel functional but still comfortable. I definitely need to fit a double bed, and there’s currently no wardrobe installed,I was thinking of placing one along the wall opposite the door, or possibly doing some sort of built-in storage there.

My initial idea was:
Double ottoman bed placed against the longest wall to maximise floor space
Wardrobe/built-in storage along the opposite wall
Maybe a small vanity or desk near the window for natural light

I’m just not sure if this would make the room feel cramped or if there’s a better way to improve the flow. Ideally, I’d love to include a bit of storage and possibly a small seating/vanity area if it fits without overcrowding.

I’ve attached the floorplan, I’d love to hear any layout suggestions or improvements to what I’ve come up with!

Thank you so much in advance :))

Parents bought a bed too large for my room, help me figure out what to do.

Hey all, returning college student. I finally graduated from my broken futon to an actual bed (yay!), but my parents went against my wishes and got a queen-sized bed instead of a full (boo...). They are too proud and too stubborn to realize this was the wrong choice, so I have to make do. I could vent my frustrations endlessly, but I'll spare the metaphorical breath. Here is the layout I've come back to. The double doors actually open into a closet, but I couldn't figure out a way to do that. Everything is sized appropriately. Here are measurements for each piece of furniture:

Bed: 61in x 83in
Desk w/ bookshelf on top: 40in x 18 in
Table: 40 in x 29in
Dresser: 36 x 18in
Nightstand: 26in x 16in
Bookshelf: 41in x 15in

I'm broke and in college, so using what I have would be best. Though I wish I could throw the whole room in the garbage and wash my hands of it...

Thank you in advance :)
