How long did your latest job search take?

More of my friends have been going through redundancy in the last couple years, the periods in between their jobs have also been increasing it seems.

If you’ve been through this, how long did it take you to find a new role in your most recent search? And if you don’t mind sharing, what industry are you in and did you take a pay cut?

Contracting gigs alongside perm job - set up & tax

Do any of you contract alongside a permanent job? I have an opportunity to do a side gig that would pay £15K for 3 small assignments over 3 months. I earn £90K in my perm job. How can I best set this up? Chat gpt says there is not much difference in ltd vs freelance in this case. I’ve never contracted before. How could I best organise myself and how much tax will I likely pay?

Apologies if this post is going to sound snobby. My partner and I both work 50 hour weeks and I have a 4 hour commute 3 x a week. Life is knackering! We’re also renovating parts of our house. We have no family nearby.

To get some support, I have had multiple cleaners over the years. But I find it so hard to find someone that’s genuinely good..

I realised I need someone that also tidies, puts clothes away, cleans out the fridge, puts away food shop, organises etc. Cleaning is actually the quick & easy part. But I find myself exhausted getting everything ready for the cleaner at 6am. We aren’t even messy people, just so busy.

I have had a cleaner in the past who also tidied a bit more, she was fab, (like emptying dishwasher, putting cups in dishwasher, neatly put papers & magazines in piles). Whereas the last 2 I have had literally don’t wipe the table if there are 3 messy items on it that would take 2 seconds to sort. Am I unreasonable? I also really can’t be asked trialling new cleaners. I find they do well in month 1 & then gradually get worse.

Should I hire someone else - like a housekeeper? And do the cleaning myself? Does anyone have any experience with what kind of person offers the help I need?
