1997 Marvin the Martian cardboard pencil box

I’ve had this pencil box since I was 9 and have carried it with me throughout all my moves, but it wasn’t until today that I took out the stuff it was holding for the last 15 or so years and saw these field day chant lyrics. I remember really liking Mrs. Colantoni. A very patient woman.

Girl Power!, circa 1998

Taken at morning recess, most likely. I believe there to be some Spice Girl influence in the first one. I was a Scary Spice fan myself, even had her Barbie doll!

In the second picture I’m wearing an L.L. Bean fleece which was a staple in my wardrobe at the time. I’m guessing this was a disposable camera since my parents allowed me to take it to school. I’m second from the right in both photos. SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!

Some photos I found from 1997-2005

Most of these were taken by me and the dates are rough guesses because I didn’t date the back.

1-6: 1997-1999. 5 is me wearing my favorite sweater that I still have.

7: 2002-2003, This was my birthday party and that’s me on the left. I loved Peanuts.

8-9: 2005-2006: That’s me on the right in 8. The orange top is actually a mini dress my mom had from around the 70’s (I think). Slide 9 is Jared Nathan from Zoom. He was my camp counselor and he was very funny and kind. Unfortunately he passed away a couple of years later. I was devastated.

10-11: 1997-2000

How old are my small dolls?

I got these about 12 years ago in NH ($35 for the lot I believe) and I think the tag said late 1800’s. I feel that was more a guess than fact. They are in such good condition as well, which makes me suspect earlier. Particularly the doll in the middle in the first two photos looks like she is wearing a fashion that came after the Victorian period. I wonder about the purses too. But, I am not an expert so I’d love some guesses, opinions, speculation etc.

A drawing based on the soldier in the bottom left hand side of the photograph, “Dressing wounded in trench during the battle of Courcelette”

From Wiki: Wounded Canadian soldiers at the battle of Courcelette, in the Somme region during WWI. This photo is very widely distributed in a cropped form, without attribution, and mis-titled "The Shell Shocked Soldier." In reality the soldiers shown have received physical injuries and are being treated at a dressing station.

Terrifying stuff.
