Tricare after commissioning before EAD
Hello all,
When we commission, but before entering active duty, are we given TRICARE coverage? I’m currently going back and forth with TRICARE representatives and haven’t been able to get a clear answer. Starting to feel like this isn’t worth the fight anymore.
According to AFROTCI 36-2011V3, paragraph 17.3.10:
“Reserve officers awaiting EAD are entitled to active-duty health care benefits. New second lieutenants are eligible for TRICARE coverage after commissioning and before EAD. Dependents are not entitled to medical benefits until the officer enters EAD. Newly commissioned officers must drop Other Health Insurance benefits to be enrolled under TRICARE.”
Based on this, it sounds like we should be covered after commissioning and prior to EAD, but DEERS/TRICARE currently has no record of me being eligible. Has anyone else dealt with this or found a solution?
