BCH Handling Mass Transactions

I wonder how BCH will handle transactions by more than just individuals. I heard someone estimate that the storage requirements for the blockchain will increase by 2tb a year, but that was just including normal people transacting. We could have ai agents and other kinds of automated payments making transactions all day and all night. I worry about whether it can handle all that. Would it fill up miner's storage too fast? Will everyone just have to run pruned nodes including miners? Open to discussion.

Do nodes matter?

I come from $BTC world, and obviously everyone says to run your own node, because don't they enforce consensus rules? Isn't that what happened when BCH forked? Most nodes didn't switch?

It's just weird to me to hear that the nodes are just not useful for the security of the network. Someone explain please.
