Independent guide tipping Xcalak

I’m fishing five days with an independent guide in xcalak for $350/day. One guide, not two. Any thought about tipping? In the Bahamas I do $100/day but the price is more than double.

Travel agencies for Mexico

I have an unexpected break in my schedule and can take a short notice, week-long trip to Mexico for Permit and migratory tarpon. My budget is somewhat fixed so I thought I’d give that number to a travel agent and see what my options look like. Some lodges might be flexible. Who knows.

Anyone have experience giving a fly fishing agency a budget like this, and anyone have good experience with a particular agency in this region? Hopefully the Reddit hive mind has some opinions and experience to share 😁

My first striper on a fly!

Finally caught a nice bass on the North Fork flats. I’ve been skunked before and this weekend I had plenty of good shots, just could not lay down a quality cast and entice a bite. Finicky mofos! Then late on Sunday one came in at 12 o’clock, I landed my fly five feet from his nose, stripped a few time and got the bite. Hallelujah! Feels as good as my first bonefish.
