What should I get before Z900RS (first bike)

I want Z900RS so badly but first I need to get a license :) this is already in motion (eta 2 months) but I read a lot of suggestions to not start from such a powerful bike. And then there’s insurance - I got two offers: £2000 and £4000 for the first year. So now I’m looking for something smaller, reasonable for daily commuting 20 miles each way (equal split of town, double carriageway and back roads). At the same time I’d like it to be reliable, easy to resell after a year or two, cheap to insure and comfortable. I’m in my mid 30s, 190cm/6ft3 height, 34 inseam, based in the UK. Touring bikes make the most sense on paper but I’m not vibing with them visually. Silly but it is what it is. Anything else goes.

One option is to get some 400-500cc from a dealer on pcp and return it after a year or two. Another option is to get something super cheap, fix it even cheaper if needed and write it off as it would cost me pretty much the same as 2-year interest on a new bike. Bonus if it’s still working.

These are not the only options but either will allow me to ride a bike, learn how to do it properly and save a lot on insurance.

What is your take on it? Any particular bikes worth looking at? I was thinking scrambler 400x or CL500 from new ones or maybe an early 2000 Honda shadow but I’m open to any suggestions
