Question about dark chocolate

Please remove if this post is irrelevant to the sub but this seems to be a haven for some educated people about lipids and heart disease etc. I happen to enjoy dark chocolate but don't know whether I am increasing my heart disease risk by consuming it. I run quite a lot so I also eat quite a lot and a 100g bar contains roughly 20g of sat fat. As I understand a portion of this is stearic acid which is said to be neutral concerning ldl. However, is it still a risk, and how much would he considered safe? And furthermore are there risks to higher fat intake beyond elevating ldl such as reduced oxygenation of tissues, or is this overblown?

You really do have to choose

I've spent some time these past few years eating a mix of fats and carbs and proteins with no intentional abstention from anything. Consequently, I can really tell my carbohydrate metabolism is becoming progressively impaired. You don't feel as good, and this mixture confuses the body and the hunger drive because you haven't picked a lane. I think you have to choose what your fuel source is going to be, and what is going to drive satiation in your meals. Right now I just kind of stop because I don't want to eat too much, rather than because im completely satisfied.

I think I'm going to try high carb low fat and see how that goes, with an emphasis on fruit. I'm pretty suspicious of our capacity to accommodate starches. I think the fruitarians are correct that our desire for fruit is far more innate, and that digestion of starches is either inadequate in the case of fibrous plants like beans, or adequate to our detriment in the case of potatoes and such, which create blood sugar issues. So I guess im going to be loading up with bananas.

How do you reconcile the digestive issues caused by this diet with the apparent health benefits?

I do not believe whole food plant based foods cause disease, and I understand there is ample evidence of their therapeutic effects. However, it is clear that for many of these plant foods cause digestive discomfort, even when adapted, and many of these foods are very recent cultivations in our evolutionary history. So anecdotally I can enjoy carrots, or beans, or grains, but clearly my body is not adapted to consuming them without difficulty.

I kind of feel like a diet comprised of primarily fruit and tofu etc. would be more easily tolerated, and maybe that's a reflection of our digestive evolution, where we relied on more concentrated calories.

I'm interested to hear anybody else's thoughts on this.

Powell Hall or Private Accommodation For a PostGrad?

Can somebody please tell me if Powell Hall is worth the investment? I'm purely interested in it for social reasons with the perhaps incorrect belief that the communal area and communal housing will make it easier to make friends. It's quite expensive for me so if it weren't for this supposed benefit I'd rather go private. Anybody have any experience in Powell Hall and is it worth it?
