My anxiety is unbearable, and I’m scared to start Lexapro

Hi everyone,

Since I developed this thing, I’ve developed debilitating anxiety. At first it was due to me being scared that I’m going blind or developing a neurodivergent disease, then after visiting multiple doctors and doing all the bloodwork and imaging I learned it’s VSS and I just need to live with it. At the six months mark, I’ve made peace with it and I’m not scared any more, it can irritate me sometimes and I can have some lows from time to time. But since it’s started I’ve noticed I developed a really bad social anxiety and I’ve become an avoidant person. I didn’t use to be like that before and I can’t control it. I avoid people, for 8 months straight I haven’t talked or met my friends and I started to lose them. I work a corporate job so you can imagine how agonizing it is and it started to affect my performance. I don’t only avoid people, I stopped even doing the things I loved to do like drawing and reading. I feel overwhelmed and exhausted all the time, even the thought of doing something exhaust me.
My new neurologist suggested Lexapro for my anxiety, but I’m so scared it will make my symptoms worse. I already used Amitriptyline for my VSS and it was really bad my symptoms got 10 times worse and I had to stop it, and even after stopping it some symptoms never got better. I’m scared to start Lexapro and the same cycle will repeat but I can’t keep living like that it ruining my life.
If anyone with VSS has used Lexapro, can you please share your experience? Or if you used any anxiety medications that helped you get better but didn’t affect your VSS symptoms please share it.

- please excuse any mistakes, English is not my first language.

Transition back to academia

Hi everyone,

I have a bachelor degree in biophysics and a master’s in bioengineering. I graduated in 2023 and started working immediately in biotech business development. My work is mainly around strategy and partnerships, so nothing too scientific.
So here is my problem, I feel like for the past couple of years since I got the job I basically let go didn’t keep up with what’s going on in terms of the industry latest development. And what is worse is that I’m starting to think about getting a Phd and going back to academia, but I feel like I forgot almost everything, I mean even the basics and I truly don’t know how does that happen ;(
I’ve started to read and study again but I feel very lost.

Has anyone ever been in the same situation? If yes, what was your plan to going back on track?
Please if you have any recommendations or advice leave them for me.
