Leez finally removed “hi-hat” from his bio. There’s been speculation for months that he is no longer working with Ifeye and this confirms it. Along with the fact that he worked with Ateez again in june (Hi-Hat, Ifeye’s company, had signed him on as an exclusive in house company producer, so the fact that he’s working with other groups again also proves he left the company).
Hi-Hat heavily advertised in media articles that they had signed Leez as their exclusive company music producer. Before ifeye was even announced, they kept pushing press articles and YouTube content touting the industry veterans they nabbed to work for this startup kpop company.
I was really thrilled with both ifeyes debut, and their first comeback. I genuinely enjoy all the songs on Erlu Blue and Sweet Tang. Leez has really good music and I feel he was able to highlight the members strengths. He gave Kasia amazing rap parts and utilized the members vocals excellently.
he was not credited on a single track for their latest comeback EP and mannnnn do I miss his touch on their music. I feel like since he spent so much time with Ifeye as trainees, producing all their predebut covers and such, he had such a great feel for how to use their voices in his music. Comparing their Leez titles tracks and bsides with this latest release, I can’t lie, I’m disappointed and bummed out. It’s just beats we’ve heard used a million times in kpop before, and lots of cutesy, high pitched, baby voice talk-singing. The members genuinely have insane vocal quality and I’ve heard Kasia deliver some smooth af deeper voiced rap verses (like in round and round) and he was smart enough to utilize Sasha for euphoric adlibs, high notes and give her rap verses tops But this new song just has Kasia talk-singing in a cutesy voice and it’s like ????? And it didn’t do anything to highlight Meu’s insane vocal skills either
I love his tracks with Dreamcatcher, (seeing he was going to exclusively produce for Ifeye made me interested in the predebut) and Ateez too. While I’m glad he has new opportunities now and isn’t locked in kpop company basement limbo, I’m sad that Hi-Hat has replaced ifeyes entire creative direction team. They did it all within a two month span right before their latest comeback. Leez’s touch is really missed imo. Their new music and music video was extremely generic and just not that interesting to me. They sold the same amount of albums as sweet tang (tho they pumped out an insane amount of fansigns and photocards for As If compared to their previous two releases, which raises album sales) so it’s not like they’re declining…. But bro Ifeye was legit my favorite group and now it’s like the rug has been pulled and I’m just not impressed with the creative or musical direction they took in an attempt to fit in. It’s not doing any justice to the members talents to give them a song like hazy daisy and the other songs on as if.
