Post-Fall

With the show returning to Netflix US, I just completed another rewatch and am once again in the post-rewatch blues. I’m not new to fanfiction but I have never read any post-fall ones. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to start? Definitely looking for something that sticks closest to what could have happened if the showed continued!

UMD Epi vs UMD Baltimore Epi

I am currently reapplying this cycle for my Epi PhD. I focus on molecular cancer epi, so I am drawn towards UMD's program through their School of Medicine in Baltimore.

Does anyone have any thoughts or notice any big differences between the two programs? Since College Park's program is on SOPHAS, I am considering submitting there as well.

Embargoed Work in PhD Application

Hi everyone, my apologies if this question is best suited for another sub:

I am reapplying for my PhD in Epidemiology this upcoming cycle and have had some exciting academic achievements happen in the past year. These include an accepted poster abstract for a conference happening this Fall and a manuscript that is currently being drafted for said conference's academic journal.

- For the accepted manuscript, it is embargoed until the beginning of November. How do I go about mentioning an embargoed abstract acceptance/presentation if I submit my applications prior to the lifted date?

- For the manuscript, how do I put this on my CV? It is currently in the editing stages with its co-authors but will be submitted for review by the end of the month. This will be my first publication (let alone my first first-author publication), and I do not know how to have it as part of my application if it is still being reviewed by the journal at the time of my application submission.

Stubborn Stomach + Bloating

Hi everyone- this is my first post in this sub so pardon if this has been asked before (or if there is a better sub please lmk!)

I (24F) am 2.5 months into consistent barre classes and absolutely loving it. I’m seeing awesome toning and progress everywhere else on my body, but my stomach is a major source of frustration. I am dealing with constant, severe abdominal bloating that is completely masking any core progress. What's weird is that when I am doing barre, I feel sore everywhere afterward except my core.

To rule out the obvious: I’ve already gone to the doctors and been tested for H. pylori, Ulcerative Colitis, IBS, and food intolerances. Everything came back negative.

I am starting to get frustrated as this isn't just normal post-meal fullness. I wake up in the morning, take a single sip of water, and my stomach immediately balloons out and feels uncomfortably tight.

My PCP suggested the FODMAP but i don’t eat anything that’s on that list (which sounds unbelievable, I know).

I'd love to know:
- Has anyone else experienced severe bloating that triggers from literally just drinking water?
-If you had similar symptoms and all your GI tests came back normal, what actually ended up being the root cause?
-Did starting intensive core workouts like barre accidentally trigger or worsen this kind of muscle reflex for anyone?

GRE for Epi PhD

How much weight does the GRE hold when it comes to public health PhDs, specifically Epi? I am a strong applicant, but standardized tests are a weak spot for me. I would opt out of taking it, but I am applying to Harvard and UMD, which require it :/

Gregmat Overwhelmed + 1 Month Plan

I signed up to take the GRE on July 25th and plan on doing a combination of the "I'm Overwhelmed" and 1-month Gregmat plans to prepare. For those who did the same, what did your day-to-day study plan look like? I plan on dedicating tomorrow to figuring out a sturdy plan, but do not want to overcommit and overwhelm myself.

Boston University - Epidemiology PhD

I am gearing up to reapply this cycle for an Epidemiology PhD. I applied to Boston University last cycle and did not reach out to faculty since the website states that it is not required (and it can be looked down upon). Although I frequently see online that successful applicants reached out to faculty before applying, who ultimately were their advisors.

Does anyone have further information on this or any advice for preparing a BU application? Thanks!

First Period on Skyla

Hi All,

I got the Skyla IUD on 5/15, and besides the pain of the insertion (she had to dilate me a bit), I was having a great experience with it until I got my period. For some background, I have been on the pill 3 times previously, all of which caused severe hormonal side effects. Before insertion, I had very heavy periods that lasted for 6 days, but I was regular and knew when to expect them.

My first period with Skyla had me spotting for three days (5 days before my period was predicted). I thought the spotting was my period, but it was painful for a day (the pain felt the same as when she dilated me), and then I started to bleed consistently on the 4th day of spotting, which I am assuming is my period. It has not been super painful, but I am now on day 10 of bleeding. It stops for a couple of hours, then becomes medium to heavy.

My doctor did let me know to expect irregular bleeding, but I did not bleed between the couple of hours of spotting after insertion to when my period started 9 days later. Again, I know this is "normal" and don't know if I really have a question to conclude this post, but I hate the unpredictability of the bleeding.
