How to combat hatred

In the current political scenario, every way of discrimination is being utilised to create division be it race, language, religion you name it.

It's necessary to disagree and not hate at the same time. We are fighting for a nation for all of us. It doesn't make sense to divide ourselves in the process of finding a solid.

Hatred is being cultivated and weaponised Let's not provide them with ammunition

Don't let the people you oppose feel hated rather heard. One may use the Socratic method for them to themselves realise the absurdity of their assumptions.

Solution: Genuine compassion

Be a lamp to yourself

Why did Buddha say that to attain enlightenment without taking the help from any deity?

Do the suttas provide any reasoning behind the same?

Is there a disadvantage to it or any details that people are usually unaware of

Edit: Thank you to the folks for taking out their time to answer the post.

I understand what enlightenment means in Buddhism and how the Buddha showed a path for it. My doubt is with regards to why Buddha said not to take help of deities. Deity worship was probably popular at that period as well. And Buddha is asking to not to go that way. Why so? I would appreciate if people can provide a technical answer or a direct quote
