Two Offers. One Idiot (Me). Zero Ideas What to Do Next!

Hi everyone. I am looking for a little bit of advice from people who have been working in DE for a while now. I already have an offer for a DE job, and may have another offer for another job tomorrow. Both are very attractive, but do have some differences, advantages, and disadvantages, and I would like to hear from people with a lot more experience with me what their thoughts would be.

Background
Been working in tech for 6 years now, completely a Cybersecurity degree, and am halfway through a part time Masters in Data Eng. I have reached the point where I feel the transition is a good idea from my current role into what I want my career to be going forward, and had been applying for a lot of jobs over the last few months. I have met with a couple of companies who knocked me back, but am now in a unique situation where I already have one offer on the table, and potentially another one coming in.

Offer 1
Nationwide company where I would be the only DE, working with their head of software, and their BI/SQL team, who deal with everything from the Bronze layer onwards. This would be a massive learning curve (which does not bother me), and I will be solely responsible for a DE aspects within the business. The domain of the role is not what I am familiar with, but am still very interested in the change. This offer is on the table. (Which I am bloody excited about)

Offer 2 (Not quite in yet)
I have a final meeting with the department head in the next couple of days with a global company who work more closely in the domain I am familiar with, but I am not necessarily desparate to "stay in my lane". I have a pretty good feeling about this meeting (Probably jinxed it now). And this role is part of an established team of DEs, with the lead DE apparently one of the best in the country. I think this would be a very, very good learning oppurtunity with a bit more of a support structure in place for someone moving into their first DE role.

Conundrum
I am not necessarily scared of being the only DE within a company (Offer 1), and think I would learn an astronomical amount by "figuring it out". But Offer 2 does come with the support structure of an established team. Obviously offer 2 is not guaranteed at this point, but I am hoping someone with a lot more experience could help by possibly posing some more questions I could/should ask myself when trying to make a decision.

Note, I know fine well I am getting a bit ahead of myself presuming that offer 2 will come in, but I also need to consider the fact that it could come in, and I then have a decision to make.

TIA all!

Theatre Royal Balcony Seats View

Hi all,

I have never been to the Theatre Royal before (Or any theatre, really), and was looking at tickets for a show next month. I'm pretty skint at the minute, and saw the tickets for the balcony are fairly cheap. But my worry is how hard is it to see the stage well from back here. Any insights?

Do My Berry and Currant Bushes Look OK?

Hello all,

First year at some gardening this year in a small garden I had abandoned for years. I have built a load of raised beds around the perimeter of my garden, and a central bed in the middle. In one of the beds, I transplanted 5 bushes I bought from the local garden centre (10 days ago now). I was just wondering if anyone would mind having a wee look over them and telling me if everything looks ok on them? I had noticed a few leaves had fell off a couple and yellowed quite a bit. They are, from top to bottom:

  • Blackberry
  • Blackcurrant
  • Raspberry
  • Whitecurrant
  • Loganberry

I also have some spring onions and giant winter spinach growing in the bed, which I have not photographed, and some rhubard and chinese cabbages in starter pots indoors, also not photographed.

TIA

HI all,

I am looking for some advice in getting my first (Junior) Data Engineer Role.

I have a BSc Cybersecurity (First Class), and am half way through an MSc Big Data Technologies. To quickly summarize the classes I have done so far:

Big Data Landscape: Google BigQuery/BigQuery ML

Data Viz: R

Big Data Platforms: Spark/Databricks/MongoDB/Neo4J (More focus on the first two)

Software Development: Python (Pandas, etc<-which I was already fairly proficient with)

I have also been working in "Tech support" (dressed up as project management, engineering management, etc) for nearly 6 years in a Wireless Communications company. But I want to start the transistion just now into a role more alligned with my MSc.

I have been applying for roles through LinkedIn, Indeed, S1 Jobs. And I have just started training for the Databricks Associate cert to help me out, and later one of the AWS certs (Prob Data Engineer). I am tracking my job search, ammending CVs/Cover Letters for each role, and have alerts for me to follow up on applications a week after I submit them.

Anything else I can do? I've not job hunted for about 6 years now, and am just looking for any advice anyone can give please?

TIA :)

Hi everyone. With the nicer weather finally arriving, I've decided to deal with my garden that's been abandoned for a few years. The garden is approx 5x5m^2, and has been strimmed back quite a bit. My long term plan is to turf the whole space, then build some raised beds for growing veg.

Currently, the garden has been strimmed down, but needs a good levelling all over. I was thinking about the method where you drive spikes into the ground, and level these with a big spirit level (Mines about 2m long).

Once levelled, I plan on turfing the whole lot, then digging back out the space for the raised beds etc.

I just want a wee sanity check on my method please, and any advice you wonderful people can give to a beginner gardener?

TIA
