Lost cat - West End?

Hi guys.

I am absolutely, utterly inconsolable. Its been 48 hours now, and my gorgeous fuzzball is still missing. I live in a tenement property in West End, and my brother wasn't paying attention and he sneaked out while I was opening the door. We have had builders/tradesmen in and out over the couple of days, so doors wedged open and a lot of noise, disruption and foot traffic.

And I have zero idea where he is or where he has went. I have searched the garden and surrounding areas (easier said than done given how utterly dense and lush the gardens are), left food out....waited until time and things were more quiet....and no luck whatssoever.

He is pretty distinctive with three legs and jet black. I hoped that he would came back being hungry or cold or scared but....

He is microchipped but thats only gonna be relevant if someone finds him AND take him to a vet so...Im not hopeful.

Why are people lifting my window wipers?

There have been a couple times I've come to my car and someone has lifted up my window wipers during the night. Is there a reason people do this? My car has been targeted by thieves in Glasgow 4 times now and I'm worried that this is someone marking my car for theft again. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Struggling to deal with Excess Clothing as a Charity/Social Enterprise?

Hello there, I work for a social enterprise in Glasgow Scotland, and we currently have an excess amount of clothing donated to us.

We are currently sell clothing in our shops, as well as online platforms such as Vinted as a way for them to get a second life and not just thrown away into landfill, as well as care packages for our local community. We also usually are able to give bags of clothing to countries like Africa for those in need of them. However, the current places we use, are at full capacity, as no one is able to send overseas, so we're at a gridlock right now with our storage unit becoming full.

We were wondering what other charities and social enterprises are doing with their excess clothing and rags? There appears to be a distinct lack of companies accepting donations! Anyone else bursting at the seams?

Is there any other way for us to shift clothing in a quick manner? Any help would be appreciated 😄

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the suggestions, I would like add I am talking about 1000s of bags of clothing, and people are bringing them to us, as surrounding areas aren't taking donations atm. Also things like homeless shelters are asking for specifics but we just don't have the staff or time to sort through and look out specifics.

Running Point - OVO Hydro

I'm just about finished S2 of Running Point on Netflix (set in Los Angeles) and only just noticed that the "LA Waves" basketball team play at the Hydro! 🤣 It's funny the places it turns up!

Did anyone else already notice this??

Pigeons nesting on my veranda

Turns out pigeons are real birds, not robots and do actually have nests with baby birds. Who knew right? We are now a month in with our new lodgers and curious how much longer they'll be here? Pretty awesome having them so close, but at the same time I've a load of stuff to tidy the area for the summer with.

Should add picture was taken while parent birds were away, there is often/always atleast one in the nest.

Will Writing Service - Looking for Rec’s

Looking for some recommendations on will writing service in Glasgow.

Would be 2 wills for myself and partner. Not married but 2 kids and everything else together so about time we get it sorted!

Anyone have any recent experience of who to try and who to avoid?

And how much should I expect a dual one to cost?

Help summer internship

I'm an Irish student (F 19) I've gotten an internship in Glasgow this summer (June-August), it's an incredible opportunity in my field and could be genuinely life changing. It's just above minimum wage,I got the position yesterday and have been trying to find accommodation since.

My family won't be able to support me and I don't have much savings. Does anyone have any advice on where I could find cheap accommodation for 3 months and/or any jobs that have weekend availability in the city centre ( I've worked as a barista and have first aid training and have a Lv 5 engineering qualification).

This is really important to me and I'm scared that I'll have to give it up because of the cost so if anyone have any advice at all it'd be really appreciated.thank you.

Signs of life at Anniesland Cross "restaurant"

There seems to be some actual progress happening at the ill-fated Public Toilets turned Tapas Restaurant that never was... There's lights being put up and some outdoor furniture but I can't see anything online about what's happening with it

This has been going on since 2011... Could there finally be something happening? Does anyone know? 🤔 It's been pissing me off for 15 years.

Good charity shops for wee figures

Weird request. I'm looking for wee figures (approx 3 inches tall) as I'm a counsellor developing my collection of figures for sand tray work with my clients. Can anyone recommend good charity shops with boxes of random kid's toys where it's like 50p a piece? I feel like this used to be a lot more common, but charity shops now, especially in the city centre, seem to have way less random cheap junk and loads more overpriced fancy clothes. Happy to travel to any part of Glasgow. Thanks in advance for reading!

Is Ayr beach safe to swim at?

Hi everyone,

My family and I are planning to go to Ayr beach during the summer with all the good weather coming and I was wondering if the water if safe to swim in because of all the Jelly fish and perhaps bacteria? I was also wondering if it would be okay to wear a bikini (not anything skimpy, lol) to swim in? I wont be walking around in it, i'd get changed to swim and then changed back into clothes again, but I dont want to offend anyone, especially those with kids or be judged.

Thank you for reading this! Have a good day!

Very low whump whump sound

Anyone hear this last two mornings? Very repeatitive, like a pile driver working at a good distance. About 7 - 8am. The sound is nearly infrasound. Lasted longer yesterday. Crossmyloof area.

Appreciate it could also be just in my head!

Why are Glasgow bouncers so bad?

Honestly I just fancied a few drinks myself in a pub for the sake of it but before I even get to the door I get told to essentially fuck off because I'm "too drunk" despite me not having touched a drop and not having said a word.

Is there something against going into a pub yourself?

I've managed for years going to bits in the rural southwest and have never had an issue.

Is it curtain-twitcher behaviour to be bothered by the new floodlights put up across from my flat?

It's quite noticeable in the middle of the night and my flat gets pretty noticeably lit-up by them even if I try to stop it. And they flash like this all night.

Not sure what can be done or if any rule is being broken, but it seems excessive. it's hard to convey on video but they seem a lot brighter than you would usually see, and the flashing seems to be by design rather than a fault.

Blinds in tenement buildings (boring question sorry)

  1. where are you buying your curtain or blinds for tenements? These windows are massive, is there anywhere that has them ready made or second hand? Or will it always be ££££?

  2. thought about Roman blinds to keep the sun out of the bedroom but these windows are also prone to mould now and then. Bad idea or irrelevant variable?

Free clean by 2 person team

Hi everyone 👋

Some of you might recognise us, we posted here a while back asking for advice when we were just starting out and you lot were brilliant. We've been quietly building ever since and we haven't forgotten how this community showed up for us.

So we want to give something back.

We're setting aside two free cleaning days a month, completely out of our own time, no strings attached. No invoice at the end, no awkwardness, nothing.

We started this business because we've seen first hand what a difference it makes when a space feels calm and looked after again. We have personal experience of how quickly a home can become overwhelming, bereavement, mental health, hoarding, life just piling up and how isolating that can feel. We don't think anyone should have to sit in that alone.

So if you or someone you know is struggling with their home for any reason at all, please reach out. We mean that genuinely.

Just drop us an email at asquared.cleaningsolutions@gmail.com with:

A bit about the situation — whatever you're comfortable sharing

Where in Glasgow you are a few photos if you can, just so we know what we're working with and what to bring

We don't have any social media even though the world loves cleantok it doesn't align with our values. Discretion is at the heart of how we work and that's not going to change.

We can't take on everything, especially anything very large scale right now, but we'll always do our best.

A² Cleaning Solutions 🧹

Edit: Guys the response has been overwhelming thank yous so much from people emailing us advice - community outreach programs getting in touch - we have our first 2 free cleans booked in and are excited to give people a clean slate they deserve 🩶

I will reply to everyone who has emailed. I am currently in the process of reaching out to other cleaning companies in Glasgow that maybe willing to help out as are only a 2 person team - if any other cleaning companies want to give back to the community and do some good please reach out 🫧 As the response has been wild and there is people that would benefit greatly

Thanks again reddit yous genuinely back up my belief that people on the whole are good 😊

Another day another pointless queue at the Renfrew bridge

Bridge closed 10.30am-12pm. Photos taken at 10.45am. £117,000,0000 spent and the bridge doesn’t tell people what time it re opens causing pointless queues every day. I noticed the re open time is shown at the bus stop of all places 😮 like people have already this was a design flaw. Just put another electric sign up with the re open times at the bridge to help people out 👍
