DIY floor tiling advice first timer — speed?

I am fitting a checkerboard pattern 30x30cm marble tile as a total tiling novice.

The tiles will be in the area with the cardboard, over underfloor heating cement boards laid with decoupling membrane on top. The area is 2.80m x 1.65m, about 48 tiles to lay.

Please confirm how long do you think this might take? Helpful to guesstimate so I can time other trades in!

I have the grace of having skirting plinths sit on top of the edges beneath the cabinets and boxed plasterboard sit on top of the edges on the door side walls.

So very forgiving on rough cuts but expect to be slow as a first timer.

Thank you!!

The vitriolic hatred South Africa is getting from other Africans

Does it bother you?

I have lived in the UK for 25 years so must admit I wasn’t really paying attention to the rising anti-immigrant sentiment in SA and its consequences.

I only realised other Africans have often vitriolic hatred for South Africans online when I was browsing social media about the Mexico World Cup game yesterday.

Had NO idea before.

They sound even more aggressive than any of the South African dudula people I’ve seen — but we know how SM encourages that kind of behaviour.

My question is: does it bother you that so many other Africans feel this way about South Africans now?

Thank you for the mostly civil discussion.

Hot - struggling to get my nearly brand new Kamado searing hot

This is the second time I used it — the first I really didn’t need high heat as was cooking in a pan. There was absolutely no coal or ash in it when I fired up today but couldn’t get above 400 F — what could I be doing wrong?

Wrapped spicy Pepperami (dried pork) stick that has been in my lunch box out of the fridge for 2 months

What say ye — can I eat this?

New here with a budget Kamado and a dream

I haven’t seen much about the 16” (~40cm) Habitat budget kamado but I just got it today and am so excited to join you here!!

It’s not exactly braaing (I’m South African) weather down here in London but by bank holiday I’ll be sharing my thoughts for anyone also eyeing it up!

Pro: comparatively cheap (I used my Amex points for most so feels like a steal)

Cons: with a 33cm cooking area, small for most people (I live alone and visitors (mostly family who have a massive bbq at theirs!) are rare so will do)!

How is this legal? It blows my mind.

I no longer live in the development but of course FirstPort haven’t bothered to remove me from the email distribution list 2 years later.

It blows my mind that it is legal for managing agents like this to
- stop cleaning and maintenance services (they were fine for years before FirstPort took over)
- increase management fees
- ask for FULL YEAR service charge in advance at the start of the 2026 year
- delay providing accounts for the previous years
- then add “admin fees” to the bill as a pressure tactic before they are removed on payment of the advance 2026 bill.

Absolutely disgusting.

I’m so grateful I bought a freehold and got out of this hell. Sorry to my buyers and anyone else in a FirstPort development.
