Fellow lawyer here: Is there a free legal aid clinic in the Brooklyn, NY area that will help an individual who is being served for divorce. Individual is indigent, has a pending immigration case and is a victim of marital domestic abuse. I’m out of state & hoping for a recommendation in that area.
There’s a marital asset (house), spouse has much higher earnings than individual. Spouse has locked individual out of the marital home (changed locks—despite police advising of applicable law). Individual is homeless and currently living in a shelter. Individual has video evidence of spouse attempting to attack individual with a machete and there were several police reports filed by individual for DV duration of marriage. Individual would agree to an uncontested divorce if there is a reasonably fair settlement agreement out of court. Any local legal aid resources that are likely to assist this individual? Thanks again.
