Context: Hey so I’ve just purchased a manual vehicle and it’s been a minute since I drove stick.

About ten years ago I rode motorcycles but that doesn’t really carry over.

I also owned several manual vehicles over the years.

Question: say I’m moving off from a red light turning right. Do I stay in first gear until I’m around the corner? Or do I shift into second mid corner?

Also, it seems like I have to change gears super slow (like releasing the clutch) otherwise the car jerks a bit and I feel silly.

It’s been so long, I honestly can’t remember how to deal with this.
