I'm on the quest for a job and got around to asking my prof for a critique of my website. He's been a game designer for 20 years. I respect his opinion. He says my site should be a one-page scroller. I'm not a fan of it, but I totally understand why not separating page content is necessary and will look into changing it.
What is your take on one-page scrollers? I've seen some by professional game designers that are exhausting to scroll through. Is this a good approach or not?
What are common pitfalls you notice, and what are some really clever presentations that made you want to hire someone immediately?
Curious to hear what you all think! :)

Whenever I walk by The Bay… it always feels a little depressing knowing that big part of Canadian history was destroyed by American private equity. It looks like a Greco-Roman ruins or something.
I never loved shopping at The Bay but it does feel like it was a part of our everyday existence. Now that it’s gone, I kinda wonder if anything is sacred anymore?
I’m certain there are things people with ADHD or Autism don’t like but does it get irritating when people (ND or not) seem to socially exclude you because you don’t match their special interests 1:1?
It irks me a little because while I understand nobody’s interests are ever going to be aligned, I meet weebs who will shit talk anything that isn’t what they would choose. Example… You like obscure techno = your taste is irritating and repetitive. You like a specific oldie anime = that anime is old and irrelevant. You enjoy alt fashion = you are vapid and normie. It follows the logic of “I don’t like ___ therefore ___ is universally bad.”
Have some ND people not grown out of being an edgy teenager? Is it lack of curiosity? Group think? All of the above? What gives!? 🤔
Honesty isn’t the problem here it’s more like… how can you relate with another neurodivergent if you immediately judge their favourite hobbies and interests.
Imagine if someone told you, your interests suck are you gonna be like “oh yeah you’re sooo right! I should abandon my special interests because you said it’s bad and incorrect!” What kind of response would you expect?
Hey there! I’m asking this question because I am in the process of editing my resume + website and finding it incredibly difficult to summarize my impact for a game demo I shipped.
I was the creative lead, game designer, UI designer and narrative writer. I also managed QA, playtesting and was heavily involved in project management and team goal setting.
I’m trying to get a job in games and have had 11 years prior experience in graphic design and UX before pivoting to games.
I have done many things and can validate my contributions but I am finding it difficult to narrow down on a few things. I have done many things that I am proud of and just want to get my foot in the door even if it’s not my first choice of job function.
Trouble is… I am trying to figure out how to display a broad range of skill without coming across unfocused. My biggest struggle is getting past feedback that my portfolio isn’t heavily focused on one profession/industry. I need a job first and foremost. I do possess other skills that I want to leverage like production and team leadership.
Difficult to just only focus on one thing and give a skewed perfection to employers that my impact was similarly limited.

A recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn asking if I was interested in a UX design opportunity for a tech company. I thought it was good news for a change.
I clicked on the link. It took me to their website to apply. When I read the descriptions I noticed that the job was …certainly for UX/ UI design, however it required the designer to train AI as the main job duty. Basically it would learn from my work and be evaluated based on how well it can simulate human decision making. Some of the job is overseeing what the AI puts out and basically check its quality as passable to a human UX designer.
Of course I have been unemployed for so long… that as much as I hate AI being used to replace workers. I feel every opportunity I come across becomes a moral and ethical dilemma. I am never sure I can fully trust the hiring process. I am not tremendously hopeful that the future of design is going to be human-centric.
How do we navigate this? I remember a time where I never had to think about whether or not accepting a job is going to contribute to the detriment of other people in society. It is really grating and depressing me right now.
I never thought that in this point of my career, I would contemplate selling out just to survive. 🙈
What would you do if you had this happen to you? What do you think about the prevalence of these type of AI training jobs? Curious to know your thoughts…
