Turo is close to bankruptcy
The real reason Turo has been making changes that take more from hosts is simply because, they have to, or they won’t survive.
I am a power host with 140 cars hosted. Only 28% of these belong directly to my business. The rest of them are co hosted (i.e belonging to other people, I host them and they get paid a split of income)
When you operate at this level, you get more access and insider information than a regular host with 5-10 cars. I know employees in Turo who are worried for their jobs, Turo has been getting rid of people nonstop to cut back on costs.
Recent changes :
The customer support service was switched from Philippines to Egypt to save costs.
Host earnings plans were changed so that Turo can make more in fees, diving more into hosts’ profits
Dynamic pricing was introduced so that there is continued demand for vehicles and less control of the pricing of the vehicles by the hosts, more money Turo’s pockets.
They now want a % cut from fee of the child/baby seats hosts provide to guests, and other “extras”
This is desperation to save the company. Turo is losing a staggering amount of money from damage claims. They won’t see 2028 at the rate their losses compounding.
