Stiff Goldenrod

Stiff Goldenrod

Hello all, this goldenrod just popped up in my garden. It is native to more eastern US. Has anyone got experience with it in inland California? I’m wondering if I should pull, I did see a hummer at it today, I’m not sure if it will grow aggressively.

Building the ecosystem in my pond, who are these guys? Mayfly nymphs?

…and bladder snails and its babies. They are liking this particular log.

Finally did it!

Got the breeding bullfrogs out (invasive here). Drained the pond. Took out a few hundred pounds worth of invasive yellow iris and sludge. Refilled! Going to add native plants next. Has anyone had success with a filter that is safe for tadpoles (not bullfrog tadpoles ;), or making it safe for tadpoles? Thanks!

Herbicide drift?

Hey all, it’s been 90’s for over a week now. Some of the tops of my tomatoes look like this. I can fold most out with my hand. Overall, the rest of the plant looks great. These are just a few spots near the top. Inland Northern California.

Pond advice

Hello! So I have a yellow iris problem. I’ve also just added some solar aerators and am trying to get wildlife back to the pond (bullfrogs decimated wildlife, west coast). There are thick mats of rhizomes just under the water in about half of the pond. Should I drain the pond then remove? I know this could affect the ecosystem. Or should I just cut under the water and hope they eventually drown? I cut a large portion down recently. It’s hard to clean with the plants so high up to the water in certain areas. Any advice would be appreciated.

Happy frog

Looks like all I did to deter the invasive bullfrogs was make them more comfy.

Bull frogs and irises, oh my.

Both invasive on the west coast in the US zone 9, it gets hot here but is pretty shaded by some maples. I just added aeration to the pond, I might buy another solar panel aerator. I just want to make it friendly for wildlife, including insects. I have two adult bull frogs and I have seen tadpoles. Since I’ve been here for three years, they have dominated the pond and there are always a couple there at a time. Since they are invasive here, I would like to prevent them using my pond for breeding grounds. Where do I start? I also plan to cut down the irises below water line to suffocate them. The only mechanism we have in this pond is a toilet ballclock floater that is connected to well water and fills up periodically. The “algae” on top is actually azolla. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Some leaves on Meyer are turned downwards and curling. Any ideas? It’s two years old. In a pretty big pot.

Last year it dropped its lemons really early. This year there are lemons that are staying and growing. Northern inland California. In the high 80’s lately.
