Career regret

I’m coming to the end of my PhD in public health in Australia, and feeling really burnt out and unmotivated. I’m just starting to apply for jobs, but getting some early rejections/not hearing back.

I’m having a lot of career regret as I see friends in actual health fields like dentistry, radiology, medicine etc accelerate in their career with career stability and high earning potential, and even pretty good work life balance. I turned down uni offers for undergraduate health degrees because I didn’t know what I wanted to do, and now I feel quite a bit of career regret.

Job market for public health right now is not great, and even the jobs I see advertised don’t even earn that much salary wise. Plus, lots of the skills I learnt in my PhD are now easily done using AI, like the coding and data analysis side. Worried I won’t get a job, and even if I do, I won’t be earning that much. Any words of wisdom from someone who is a bit further down the line in their career? 🥹

Have not heard back about job application

Applied for a bulk round to federal aps in June and have not heard back - does this mean it’s likely a reject? 🥹

Quite disappointed as I have done projects for this department previously
