Honua Kai - Polarizing Reviews

I'm looking to get some clarity on how things are at the Honua Kai. Half the reviews online seem great and it looks like an awesome place for families. But there is a significant number of reviews that mention serious concerns ranging from cockroaches to broken water heaters and air conditioners to construction on the pools and just poor quality service. A few negative reviews are always to be expected, but by comparison the Westin next door has much fewer negative reviews (although it also costs 2x)

I know the resort is a mix of rentals and "hotel" rooms run by outrigger, so I don't know if it just is totally up to chance on if you get a good unit or not or if there is more substance to the negative reviews.

We're booked for a week at the end of June, but I am stressing out about taking my family and pregnant wife and finding a room with cockroaches.

Has anyone been there recently and can attest the state of things?

I appreciate any input you have. Thank you!
