My cast is driving me insane

Hi everyone,

I am on cast number 2, going for the third one in 3 weeks.

My surgery, which lasted nearly 6 hours, included:

They're basically rebuilding part of my foot: removing old hardware, cleaning out damaged tissue, fixing an extra bone and bone spur, fusing a painful joint, and using bone from my hip to help it all heal together. They also did a bone graft from my heel during the process. They had to cut the surgery short and couldn't remove all the hardware, as it could have led to more nerve damage.

Now my question is:

What can I put over my cast to make it less annoying?

It is a below-the-knee cast, and it limits every position I sit in or lie in. The texture scratches me if I don't put a pillow between my cast and my foot, and I am not supposed to be using pillows, apparently.

What did you guys do to make it easier? How do you soften the cast?

2 weeks post-op

Those of you who have been cursed with NWB, how do you survive it?

I am going to the doctor again next week, but I feel like it will still be NWB.

6 days post op pain

Hi all.

Last week's plan was essentially:

They're basically rebuilding part of my foot: removing old hardware, cleaning out damaged tissue, fixing an extra bone and bone spur, fusing a painful joint, and using bone from my hip to help it all heal together.

Now the bone graft is obviously horrible and annoying and unnecessary. I've been bed-bound since getting out of the hospital.

This all happened in the right ankle and there was a complication or 2.

Today I'm experiencing such a bad pain in my right shoulder, like I can hardly wheelchair myself to the loo.

Any tips for shoulder pain?

Day 1 post op

Can I just say that a bone graft is the most painful thing I have ever experienced??
I was scheduled for a 4-hour surgery, but it ended up being a 6-hour surgery.

I am going home in a couple of hours, and I will be wheelchair bound for the first 2 weeks. Nott ecvited for that at all.

I need some motivation.

Surgery incoming: I need advice

So the operation will include:

- Removal of hardware

- Debridement (clean out damaged and unhealthy tissue)

- Anterior Exostectomy

- Kidner procedure accessory navicular

- Subtular arthodesis

- Bone graft from the hip

I am going to be in bed for the better part of 4 months.

So far, I have a TV in my room, games on my PC, I have books uploaded on my Kindle, and a colouring book. We are lifting the foot of my bed next week, and bringing in a fridge, a kettle, and a small air fryer.

What else do I need to keep sane?

Which NFS should I purchase next?

Hi ya'll,

I recently played NFS Heat again, and I had a lot of fun.

I need a game for the next 3 months as I am going for an operation and I will be bed-bound, and I feel like NFS will be a fun distraction.

Which one would you recommend that gives you the most fun gameplay?

Thank you in advance

Surgery upcoming

I have this surgery to look forward to on the 4th of June. Any tips on how to cope post-surgery?

I will not be allowed any weight bearing for the first 8 weeks and I am terrified of going through all that again.

Edit: Sorry, I should have added more details. I had a trimalleolar fracture 4 years ago. The inserted the hardware. I had an avulsion fracture 2 months ago and we tried the moonboot route to see if there is improvement, but unfortunately it got worse. Now we are doing this operation. I'm 35 years old.

Avulsion Fracture 9 weeks later

Hi ya'll

So I had a trimolear fracture 4 years ago.

9 weeks ago, I got myself an avulsion fracture.

It hurts like all hell, and my next appointment with the doctor is only on the 12th of June.

I have severe swelling and utter pain.

Any recommendations on how to deal with it, my job (I am a teacher), and all the pain without taking pain meds?

I am sorry if this post is long and jumbled, but I will try and be as concise as I can.

A few years ago, I started at a new job, and I made friends with someone else who also started around the same time as I did, let's call her Anne.

We became super close and spent a lot of time together. I introduced her to my cousin who she started dating, and we all had a great time together, going to shows and all that stuff.

A few years later, she left my place of employment and started working with my sister. And immediately, she started leaving me out of things. At first, I thought it must have been accidental, but the more it happened, the more I realised that I was being taken for a fool.

She would go out of her way to say how my sister is her bestie and how they have all these things in common, and would do the things with my sister that I would organise and find a way to leave me excluded.

Mind you, in the last few years, every time I wished her a happy birthday, I didn't get a response from her, and she didn't bother wishing me a happy birthday.

Last week, my sister invited all of us to her house for a dinner just because she felt like it.

My sister and Anna both have dachshunds, and I have a Labrador.

After they spent a lot of time talking about their work (where I could not participate because I don't work there and gave up after 10 times to join the conversation), we eventually got to talking about out dorky doggos.

At one point, I was saying how clumsy my dog is because she seems to trip over her paws when she becomes excited.

Anne replied by saying that their dogs are cute at least. She did emphasise their dogs.

There were obviously other incidents as well, but there isn't enough internet in the world to dive into it.

I just want to know if I am overreacting by feeling like this was now a jab at my dog, after she made a point out of ignoring me for the first part of the dinner?

Okay, so my chocolate is 4 years old, and for a while, she's been itching and scratching.

I have taken her to the vet and had her on a lot of medication, and it didn't work.

I've changed her food.

I've changed the products I use to wash the floors.

I've changed my laundry detergent.

I've changed her shampoo and her groomers.

I'm at my wit's end.

Please share tips so that I can help my beautiful girl suffer less?

I added a picture of how she likes to sit and wait for me when I get back from work.
