My small terror strikes again

We’re home from the emergency vet, if you guys remember my beautiful princess Zelda has a habit of needing vet visits. So, when I got her at 8 weeks she had a bad parasite infection that I thought cleared up because I had her on monthly dewormer and had given her the meds for coccidia. Turns out, no!

So in a strange combination of drinking too much water, not getting dinner the night before because I fell asleep accidentally, and aggravating her GI tract, the parasites that never fully died came back in full swing and she was throwing up brown water, acting lethargic and almost like she was intoxicated, and her blood pressure was so low her ears and gums were paper white and cold. I thought she got GDV because she inhaled water and then was messing with her brother.

Rushed to emergency vet, and we still fully don’t know what happened but it wasn’t an obstruction or GDV at the very least. The vet said it was probably her coccidia that gave her such a bad tummy ache that forced her to throw up so much- and her drinking so much water gave herself water intoxication on top of that. So she was dehydrated but also too hydrated. All of these things are things that have never happened to me before in the 7 years I’ve owned dogs. I just wanted to make you guys aware of this absolutely bizarre scenario because I was freaking out that she got GDV. She’s back to her normal bizarre self and is getting 3 meds for the coccidia. Remember it’s not normal dewormer that can treat it, and please test your other dogs and immediately clean up any poop. Everyone is getting a fecal test now that I know she has it.

This is how I pictured Howie in last week’s episode

Especially after hearing the description of some of his atrocious outfits. All I could think of was Kilton from BOTW lol. Freaky little voice and all. I kept laughing at the idea of this freaky little guy obsessed with monsters self inserting himself into the story just so he can be around more monsters.

Public Enemy #1

Zelda (3.5months almost 4) decided to be a menace to my cortisol levels and when I left her tethered to the dining table like usual for a 10 minute shower, I came back to discover she had pulled up some carpet and started nomming on the piece of wood meant to nail it down. Had a heart attack, took her to the vet for X-rays and I’m thankful to say all is well and she was just full of shit :)

It’s poetic honestly.

Hope you guys enjoy her looking absolutely pitiful at the vet. I also need a tetanus shot now too. Mind you, she was surrounded by her nice toys and even her nylabone chew toys. But rusty nails on a ruler sounded more appealing I guess. Maybe she wanted to get into the Salty Spitoon.

My puppy keeps peeing in her crate

Hey everyone, I have a 3mon German Shepherd who just can’t understand peeing outside. I’ve done it all, I’ve gotten the pee sprays, I let her outside every 15-30 minutes, but every morning I wake up to her soaked in her own pee. The crate has a divider so it’s a bit smaller so she doesn’t have extra space to pee in a corner or something. She’s eaten in her crate, she sleeps there overnight, but she just can’t stop herself. And I obviously clean it up really well just so it doesn’t stink her crate or smells like pee to her. She also always gets washed off and dried so she doesn’t smell but I’m just getting tired of cleaning her daily. Sometimes multiple times a day. She pees on the carpet, she pees in the crate, I just don’t understand what I can do to make her understand this is home and pee outside.

I’ve had her for 1 month now, she was super sick when I got her and just took her to the vet this week for her shots and checkup and I got a clean bill of health. She is no longer struggling or sick thankfully, but what can I do now to give her guidance.

Al anon

Hey everyone! I’ve been going to an addiction/relationship/ personal therapist who strongly recommended I attend al-anon and start the healing process because my relationship ended due to alcohol abuse on his side. (I also have a long history of addiction being present in my life, my father was one and seemingly I’ve had 2 boyfriends who suffered from alcoholism- enough to become a trend in my therapist’s eyes.) I’m 28F, is anyone attending the meetings in the area and has recommendations? I saw there were so many options and dates, I’ve never been to one and I wanted my experience to be good. Wasn’t sure if anyone attends one here and really liked it. I am Catholic so any Christ-based meetings is comfortable for me as well. Thank you! I hope you all have a good day 🧡 here’s a photo of my dog to feel better lol

She’s just a baby

Zelda and my other dogs went for a walk in the park today, trying to still expose her but keep her safe. This is what I came up with lol

I hate the fact it took up so much arm space and was a very meaningful tattoo to this person but this is atrocious looking

Zelda (10wks)

She had a bit of a rough start but is healing well from the worm/bacteria infection. She truly is helping me a lot with my depression and patience. She’s a very sweet, smart little girl- just lacks common sense lol.

8 Week Old German Shepherd Puppy- going about training

This is going to sound a bit crazy but I’ve had this beautiful lady for 6 days and it’s been going very good- chaotic but not in any way she could help. I got her last Thursday, they just handed me to her, no paperwork or anything, and drove off. She was very sleepy and tired but I figured it was because she was so young and adapting. By day 3 she was vomiting and refusing to eat and having violent diarrhea- I was worried she had parvo. Took her to the emergency vet, and $400 later she had some weird bacteria I’ve never heard of before and a severe, and I mean SEVERE, worm problem. Poor thing was so sick and couldn’t even eat. Thankfully she’s taken to the meds and she’s gotten dewormed, she’s on her final dose for the medicine for the bacteria and she’s up and at it.

She’s so smart, she’s figuring out the leash (I walk her around my house leashed and we work on her following me and not fighting it). She also has figured out her name and sit. Still working on the other ones but it’s barely been a week and for most of it she was having the world’s worst tummy ache. A plate of bad spaghetti as some would say.

I’ve raised a puppy from 7 weeks before, he is a rat terrier/maltese and he was a menace to society at large. Took him 2 years and the neuter surgery to be at a point where he’s not only a well behaved gentleman, but also goes to daycare, boarding, and hangs out with any and all dogs no issues. Took a lot of time and effort though.

I am coming to this subreddit now because honestly I’m a little lost on what to do and what steps I should be taking. My first puppy it was such a fight to get him used to being in a car, to not fighting the leash, to be in his crate for periods of time.

But this puppy she sits in her crate, she does cry from time to time but when she realizes I’m not coming she settles herself. She doesn’t mind the leash, sometimes plays with it but I correct it. She also just passes out in the car and was so polite at the emergency vet despite being sick. We even went on a walk around Home Depot for 2 hours (she was in the cart and I didn’t allow any dogs to approach her) and she just sat there quietly observing the store and just smelling and listening.

Am I doing this right? Is there milestones I should be hitting by certain weeks? She got her first round of shots after the emergency vet incident Sunday (he approved it, said it was just bad worms and vaccines shouldn’t interrupt her healing/recovery) so now I’m just waiting for another 2 weeks for the second round and so on. Because she was so sick I’m a bit nervous taking her around Home Depot again but do you guys advise still taking her to get socialized and adapted to stores?

Has anyone else gotten lucky with just a very sweet GSD? I also am not hammering the training per se for now because she was so sick but the fact she’s figured out sit and her name so fast is crazy to me. When do you guys advise taking her to daycare, taking her to meet other dogs, what do you guys think?
