You were all super cool about my post regarding my old creepypasta (and my first ever short story, written when I was 16) From Hell I Write, and a lot of you were curious about what I’m writing now.
Well, still horror, but it's a lot better! :D
My novella, The Mummy's Voice, was published this past June by Black Hare Press! It took me 11 years of consistent writing to get here, but I finally wrote something someone was willing to pay me for.
Thank you all again for your support on my original post, it's been great chatting with you. This subreddit legit has some of the coolest people I've ever interacted with on Reddit.
What I can tell you is I have no intentions of slowing down. I currently have another novel I'm shopping around-an epic dark fantasy novel called The Nightmare God. It's like Berserk but in a Weird West skin. I also have another horror novella in the revisions stage, and will be starting work on my next full-length novel soon after that's done.
Anyway, here's hoping Isaiah and Hunter don't finish the From Hell I Write trilogy anytime soon 😂
So I really enjoyed this story. I just finished it today. Hunter and Isaiah had very different interpretations of the story and the meaning behind it so I was just curious what other people thought. Like the coatrack in the basement story I really enjoyed it but I will say I'm left with more questions than answers at the end. I don't know anything about the book or other material that may answer these questions so I only have the episode to go on. Hunter was pretty convinced that eve was just crazy and Isaiah believed there was a supernatural thing going on. I gotta say I agree with Isaiah a lot more mostly because I think the whole " the person telling the story is crazy and you can't trust everything you've seen" is kinda lazy. Also I thought the whole picture in the locket at the end implies that there must be some kind of dimensional or time thing going on. But anyways enough of me rambling. 😅
This whole story feels like it was written by someone intimately familiar with paranoid schizophrenia and/or psychosis, and puts that uncertainty onto the reader. Coincidences are on purpose, everything happens at a suspiciously perfect time, someone else can get inside your head and read your mind or control your body, but I think Paul has the best parallel here with a small detail. A common coping mechanism people use to distinguish reality from hallucination is to use mirrors. Schizophrenia essentially hijacks the brain's pattern recognition and auto-fill making it's hallucinations incredibly realistic, conjuring fictitious people you can have entire conversations with. But, reflections are abstract enough that the brain has a hard time filling them in properly to fit the delusion. Don't know if someone is real? Look in the mirror, and if the reflection is wrong (or not there at all) then they aren't real.
