Why am I still stuck with Him?

I (22F) dated a guy (35M) for around two months.

We only went on maybe 6 or 7 dates, but he was very consistent in the beginning and made me feel like he was genuinely interested in me. He would text me first, plan dates, compliment me constantly, and talk about things we could do together in the future.

I honestly started thinking this could turn into an actual relationship. Then out of nowhere, his energy completely changed. He became distant, took forever to reply, stopped making plans, and eventually told me he just didn’t feel the connection he was looking for. I tried to accept it and left things alone. The stupid part is that I’m still thinking about him weeks later.

I found out through a mutual friend that he’s already talking to another girl, and for some reason that really messed with my head. I keep imagining him being with her and being the same sweet, affectionate guy he was with me in the beginning. I know I don’t actually know what’s going on between them, but my brain keeps creating this perfect version of their relationship. I think what hurts most is feeling like I was so easy for him to walk away from. I let myself trust him, got attached, and was more vulnerable with him than I usually am.

Now I keep wondering if I imagined the whole connection and if any of it was even real to him. It’s embarrassing because we weren’t even together that long. Why am I this affected by someone I only dated for a couple of months?

How do you actually get over someone when your brain keeps romanticizing what could have been?
