Looking to discover new indie houses. What are your recommendations?

I'm finding it increasingly difficult to click with most designer releases or even mainstream niche. I still think a lot of them smell nice, but they aren't adding anything new or unique to my collection.

Likes - Most animalics (ambergris, civet, castoreum, deer musk), Trees! (Fir, pine, hinoki, cypress, etc.), Incense, Ink, Lavender, Citrus, Green Apple, Neroli, oakmosss, Petrichor/Geosmin, oakmoss, Herbal aromatics, Resins, and oakmoss.

I'm also VERY into vintage designers. Polo, Tsar, Mitsouko, Samsara, Chanel No 19, Cool Water, Drakkar Noir, Antaeus, Kouros.

Dislikes - Vanilla as the main character, coconut, cannabis, most mango/papaya/etc.

Here are a few I enjoy and recommend...

Anomalous Parfums
Clandestine Laboratories
Toskovat
Fischersund
Rogue
Pineward
Katana
Jinx

It seems Raiders of the Lost Scent is gone.

Tried to look up some info today and got a notification that "this blog has been removed." Checking around no one seems to have any additional information about why. I hope this is temporary. It was the single best resource remaining for vintage perfume info.

If anyone knows more please share.

Third Eye Red Rum Reserve - 1st Anniversary release

I met Will Southard of Third Eye just before he launched his brand. He's a great guy and has some amazing fragrances. He generously sent me a pre-release bottle of his 1st Anniversary scent, officially launching 08/17. It's fantastic.

If you've tried his Red Rum here's where RRR is different - The original has richer tobacco in the top and more musk. Red Rum Reserve has more cherry , a different more aromatic rum, orris butter, a different woods profile - Royal Hawaiian sandalwood and Mysore sandalwood with some rum cask oak extract.

To my nose RRR has more, brighter, fuller cherry notes. Very noticeable in the opening but present throughout the wear. The spiced rum is spicier, the woody dry down is creamier. I don't like cloying sweet fruit scents and this manages to be very intense without ever feeling heavy.

It's a winner IMO, check it out if you can!

Cadola owners, how's the quality?

I absolutely love the look of this watch but was not familiar with the brand. Some Googling showed me it's not a true microbrand but a Chinese relaunch of a vintage brand owned by the same group behind Spinnaker, AVI-8, and others. I'm fine with that, if it's a quality watch, at least proportional to the price. I can get 20% off the listed $340 price so I'd be around $270 for it.

Can any owners share how they like their watch and if it seems to be well-made?

Houbigant Neroli Bleu

Got the new Neroli Bleu from Houbigant. 1 of 3 from their new Cote d'Azur collection.

It's really nice. From the name I expected a light aquatic but it's got some legs. Bright citrus and mint opening but that quickly moves to salty sea air and some spiciness. Neroli is present and very nice but feels a bit heavier than many other neroli frags with the other notes.

I've only had it on for about an hour so will have to see how longevity is. Love Houbigant scents but many of their EdPs don't last long for me.

Rare Polo Sport Splash

These are very tough to find info on and what I do find is a bit conflicting.

I've seen the smaller bottles in sets with cologne, aftershave, shampoos, etc. and some people say they remember the 16 oz. bottles in stores but others say they were promotional gifts with a purchase or salesman's gifts.

I've seen it listed as Polo Sporting Splash a few places, but all my bottles say Sport Splash. The two small ones are 1982 and 1985 and the big one is a 1982.

Profile is very, very light Polo Green. I'm guessing Eau Fraiche concentration. The 1985 bottle seems the brightest of the 3. The large 1982 turns into mostly woody notes quickly.

66.6% civet in this week's pickups

I like civet.

Sample the Zoologist at a shop last week and posted an ISO in one of my FB groups. A friends told me she'd seen one on Mercari. Ended up being OG bottle and I paid less than a new one.

I got the Meleg Civet Cat Chypre because a friend mentioned Henry Jacques Vert Galant to me and looking it up on Fragrantica this was in the "Reminds Me of" section. Price was not bad so I decided to snag it and share with a few friends.

The Katana Symphonie de Vanille was a dirty trick from another friend. He sent me a sample and said he thought I'd like it. He was right... so he asked if I wanted to buy his bottle.

All in all a pretty great week, I love all 3 of these.

ISO proxy from China & Thailand to US for perfume purchases

I'm trying to purchase two perfumes released in Asia but not available in the US. I looked for sub rules our guidelines on how this worked but didn't see any so hopefully I'm doing this right.

Polo Earth Pinewood - I believe this is a China market exclusive. I've seen it listed on some duty free shops but not finding it elsewhere when searching from US.

Polo Earth Sea Salt - Just released yesterday. I have seen places in Thailand and Indonesia mention it.

If you can help and don't mind a bit of chat to see how this works please message me. If there's a site I can order from directly to you or you can purchase it I'm flexible.

[WTB] Polo Earth Pinewood 100ml (bottle)

Ralph Lauren has released 2 fragrances in the Chinese market - Polo Earth Rose and Polo Earth Pinewood. I was able find the Rose on eBay but cannot find the Pinewood. There is a 40ml Pinewood on eBay but I want 100ml. I need it.

Some people have seen it at Luxury Beauty Store in the US, L'Oreal's outlet shop, but I called every LBS in the USA and none of them have it.

I've chatted with RL Fragrances US support, I've chatted with RL EU customer support, and got nowhere.

If someone sees this and can get it I will pay you $50 plus the cost of fragrance and shipping to get it for me. If you're going to China and can mule it back from Duty Free, same offer.

In short - WTB 100ml Polo Earth Pinewood. Will you pay you $50 plus cost to get it to me. Thank you.

#Really need this for the collection.

On average, how many sprays do you use?

I'm in fragrance groups across Reddit and Facebook and in the forums on Basenotes and Parfumo. There seems to be a huge variance in what people consider the "right" number of sprays.

I'm polling a few different groups to see what's actually going on. If I get enough info to be noteworthy I'll share the results.

There are many factors that can impact how much you spray but let's just say we're talking about an average/moderate EdP.

Polo Earth Rose and Pinewood

https://imgur.com/5LKydOm

Anyone else here seen or tried these?

Polo has released two new fragrances in the Earth line - Rose and Pinewood. These are China market releases, not sure if that is only China or just initial launch. A few bottles have been spotted in some of the outlet mall shops in the US.

I was able to snag a Rose off eBay and it's really nice. Soft and creamy rose with some green notes, like plant stems and leaves. Can lean a bit vegetal but not offensive IMO.

Still ISO the Pinewood. If you see one, let me know!

I'm doing a decant pass with a few friends. 6 of us total. Each person can take up to 5 decants from the box and must replace them then send to the next person. Once everyone else gets done it will come back to me and I get whatever ends up in the box.

Any favorites here or ones you'd like to try?
