Erasmus in Ponta Delgada
Hi everyone!
At the beginning of September I’ll be moving to Ponta Delgada (Azores) for an Erasmus exchange, and I’ll stay there for at least 6 months. I’ve never been there before, so I’d really appreciate some advice from people who live there or have already experienced it
First of all: what kind of weather should I expect from September through winter/spring? What clothes should I bring with me? Does it rain a lot? Will I need heavy jackets, or is layering enough?
I’d also love to know:
- what university life is like in Ponta Delgada and how the Erasmus/student environment is
- activities and things to do in free time
- places around the island that are absolutely worth visiting
- how transportation works and whether having a car is useful
- cost of living, supermarkets, gyms, etc.
Also, do you have any advice on what to do during the first few days to settle in more easily? For example:
- important paperwork or things to arrange immediately
- best ways to meet people
- useful student groups/communities
- common mistakes to avoid when arriving
Any kind of advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!
