If Dave wants to be compared to dot……
NOTE: I AM IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM HATING ON DAVE, I LOVE HIM
There has been discussions of Dave being the ‘Kendrick’ of the uk, which i totally get and understand, but i think one of the main criticisms about TBWPTH (which again i loved so don’t take this as hate) is that he mentioned that he needs to speak up on issues more and do more (given the name David), but he didn’t really speak up on much in the album apart from a brief line about the illegal settlement in the west bank and 2 lines regarding congo diamond mining. Perhaps that was a lead for the next album where he really gets conscious, but i think to be compared to dot, Dave needs to be more direct on his approach in his next album regarding social justice (like tpab) or at least focus on it more.
This is not me saying he hasn’t done this, i am well aware of ‘peace dream’ and the hundreds of thousands that raised and obviously ‘question time’ is one of the most politically direct songs i’ve listened to. This is also not me saying he HAS to do the above, it’s just i don’t think we can compare him to kendrick until his albums become more focused and the subject matter is consistent.
