Feeling very downtrodden. Previous ultrasounds have shown adenomyosis 3 times. I’ve lost my job because of this disease. Now I’m scared that they’re going to push back against a hysterectomy.
My Sim turns her back for TWO minutes and Lilith Vatore swoops in to watch a movie with her husband 😒
Having my Hysteroscopy this afternoon and I’m so anxious
I have adenomyosis and highly suspected endometriosis. I’m having a hysteroscopy this afternoon and a biopsy done at the same time. It was supposed to be under general anaesthesia because I have some trauma from previous procedures and the pain it caused me, but they’ve had to change it to local anaesthetic for some reasons to do with my medication. I am SO nervous. Anyone got any words of advice/reassurance? 💖
Hysteroscopy — general or local anaesthetic?
I’m due to have a hysteroscopy next Saturday. My gynae offered me general or local, and I immediately opted for general because I’ve previously found it so painful to have any sort of investigation in that area. But now I’m freaking out a little about the safety of general anaesthetic and wondering whether I should ask for a local one instead.
Big appointment tomorrow and I’m anxious.
Hi lovely people. I started having adenomyosis symptoms when I was 18 and didn’t get an official diagnose until I was 28. I’ll be turning 31 in July, and tomorrow I have an appointment with a gynaecologist for the second time (I’m paying to go private this time) to discuss what to do about this horrible condition.
The first attempt at seeing a specialist gynaecologist did not go well at all. It was in summer 2023, and I was in the room for less than 10 minutes. She didn’t even have my notes on the screen, didn’t examine me or anything, and she basically just told me that if I lost weight, my problems would go away, despite me trying to stress the fact that these problems predated my weight gain and that I’ve only gained weight since which I haven’t, no matter what I try, been able to shift. My doctor also noted this. The gynaecologist even said that doctors “don’t know what they’re talking about” when it comes to adenomyosis and that they [doctors] “just throw that diagnosis out there when they don’t know what else to say”. I came away from that appointment feeling so demoralised and invalidated that I told myself I would continue to just suffer, that I couldn’t go through that again. But the adenomyosis has got so much worse in the last year and taken such a hit on my work life/home life/mental health, that I decided to try again to see a gynaecologist. My lovely, supportive GP wrote a private referral letter detailing all the things I’ve tried to no avail over the years (tranexamic acid, menefamic acid, naproxen, mini pill, mirena coil, paracetamol, ibuprofen) and has outlined that I’m not interested in “protecting my fertility”, I just want a hysterectomy and my life back. It’s taken up so much of my life already.
So, that appointment is tomorrow morning, and I’m feeling so anxious and nervous that I’m not going to be listened to again. I did my research and specifically selected this gynaecologist based on the reviews I read about her, but I still worry she won’t listen and that I’ll have another fight on my hands.
Any words of advice? Thank you in advance! 💖
I’m at my wit’s end with this. I started having ado symptoms when I was 18 and it took me until 28 to get my diagnosis because of so much medical negligence. I’m 31 this year.
I’ve had SO much pain and suffering over the last 13 years, and I’ve had to take a lot of time off work and make so many amendments due to it. I’ve been at the same company the entire time, and even though they’re mostly supportive, I feel like my employment is being ruined because of this illness. I had to cut my hours down to only 9 a week (3 hours, 3 times a week). I receive a monthly Limited Capability of Work and Work Related Activities payment, which helps. I’m awaiting an appointment with a gynaecologist at the end of May to discuss (hopefully) a full hysterectomy so I can actually live my life.
After a lot of time off last year, I finally had a meeting with my manager at work at the beginning of this year about how I need to somehow get my attendance up while they continue to support me. They also referred me to Occupational Health. I’m trying so, so hard, but it just feels like this illness is getting increasingly worse and interfering with my ability to work. I know from a recent ultrasound that I have a pretty big cyst in my uterus right now, so that might be why I’m suffering so much. But I’m really struggling to stay in work. Since that meeting, I’ve had multiple days where I’ve had to leave early due to excruciating pain. I’ve had multiple times where I’ve become too dizzy to move. I’m bleeding constantly and I’m exhausted. On Friday, I fainted and got sent home. I’ve spent my weekend trying to rest, but I feel so dizzy and exhausted that I’ve had to tell my manager I need an extra day to try and recover.
I just feel so frustrated with myself that I’m struggling to manage even three bloody hours (excuse the pun), three days a week. Admittedly, my job is very physical and on-the-go, but I still get frustrated with myself. I feel guilty and like total shit for letting people down. And I feel like it’s ruining me. It’s not long until my gynae appointment, but I’m having huge Sunday guilt knowing I’m having to take tomorrow off.
Just wanted to rant and get this off my chest 💔
