Hexagons should get a single art that’s just The Resistance + Wow! Signal

Unfortunately I have the artistic skills of a pre schooler and wouldn’t even dare attempting this but:

Imagine the Resistance album cover, but the Hexagons are transparent with red outlines and the little dude at the bottom is on his knees instead of standing up, looking ahead to the space croissant and red laser with Europa above instead of Earth. Maybe even the bridge/surface he’s on is cracking or collapsing.

Could have a tagline at the bottom “Our resistance is mass produced”. The idea being that it’s like a corrupted or distorted version of the Resistance art.

Sorry I know this is random. I just think it’d be cool.

Redemption 9 years in the making

9 years ago, Muse dropped Dig Down on my birthday. I remember being so excited they were coming out with a song on my birthday. Unfortunately, to this day, Dig Down is the only Muse song I don’t at least somewhat like. Big disappointment.

9 years later, we get Hexagons. Insane redemption. Fantastic song. The Wow Signal is 4/4 for me so far (yeah technically the release date is the 19th but it was available for me on Spotify while it was 11:00pm on the 18th so I’m counting it)

Showbiz: They make me dream your dreams. They make me scream your screams.

Origin of Symmetry: Wash me away. Clean your body of me. Erase all the memories. They’ll only bring us pain. I’ve seen all I’ll ever need.

Absolution: Our wrongs remain unrectified and our souls won’t be exhumed

Black Holes and Revelations: I’ve had recurring nightmares I was loved for who I am and missed the opportunity to be a better man

(But if we’re counting Glorious: Rose tinted views and satellites that compromise the truth)

The Resistance: This time we’ll get it right it’s our last chance to forgive ourselves

The 2nd Law:  Stand up and deliver your wildest fantasy. Do what the fuck you want to there’s no one to appease

Drones: I gave you everything, I can’t give you anymore. Now I’ve become just like you.

Simulation Theory: You are the coder and avatar. A star.

Will Of The People: You and me throw caution to the wind. And I will risk everything just to feel the warmth and the voltage of your skin. If this is my last day on earth, I just want to be with you. You are all that’s true.

The Wow! Signal (so far): Feeling the glow die inside of our bones. This is a hymn for our love with no god and no throne.

So I grew up with the versions of the first four albums with the bonus tracks (Spiral Static, Futurism, Fury, Glorious) as the final tracks in the track listing. Now, I was pretty young at this point when I was really getting into them (like 12) and after I found out they were just bonus tracks I pretty quickly made Hate This and I’ll Love You and Megalomania the canon closers for Showbiz and Origin in my mind.

However, still to this day I will die on the hill that Fury and Glorious are the perfect closers for Absolution and Black Holes.

I feel stronger in Fury’s case. Yes, Ruled By Secrecy is an incredible closer, but I think back to that quote from Matt where he says something (paraphrasing here) about the song being about a guy who’d came home from work with blood on his hands having totally lost the plot. If that’s Ruled By Secrecy, Fury is him going out his front door and facing the punishment. Like, Apocalypse Please sounds like the urgent beginnings of the rapture and Fury sounds like the carnage and actual decimation of the world. Also, Ruled By Secrecy trickling out with those haunting piano notes and then Fury bringing the sky down with that opening riff…it’s just so right to me. Ruled by Secrecy feels like the calm before the storm and Fury feels like the storm.

As for Glorious, I concede Knights of Cydonia is definitely more of an epic closer that will take your breath away and the fact it’s so cinematic actually aids my feelings for Glorious, because it sounds like the albums credits. Knights of Cydonia is the final battle and Glorious is the aftermath. It’s perfect for a bonus track, comparable to a post credits scene in a movie that’s relevant to the story and not just a tacked on extra.

Anyways, this all stirred because I listened to Absolution XX and did not like the transitions from The Small Print - Fury - Endlessly and am now worried where they’ll throw Glorious if they do Black Holes XX

Be With You is so good and I wish it was longer
