And just like that, all the Tesla's disappeared

Was having my morning coffee at A&W on Bridgeport and St. Edwards when suddenly a wave of people jumped up, ran outside, unplugged their EVs, and drove off. Turns out there was a power outage. 😂 For a second, it looked like someone had announced, “Attention everyone… a tidal wave is coming!” I’ve never seen so many people sprint to their cars so fast. Even funnier watching people get out of one spot and then go to the next thinking there would be power at a different stall.

How come SMR's are not being built in the USA?

Genuine question for the group: with Russia and China already operating small modular reactors (SMRs), Canada actively building one, and countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, South Korea, France, Poland, Finland, Romania, Sweden, Japan, India, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE all pursuing SMR programs, is there a reason so many countries are investing in this technology if it doesn’t have a future? I’m interested in hearing both sides of the argument. What are these countries seeing in SMRs that makes them worth the investment, and what are the biggest obstacles that could prevent widespread adoption?

Homicide Risk During Waiting Period Among Handgun Purchasers

Link to the journal, should be free access.

A recent JAMA Internal Medicine study examined first-time handgun purchasers and their household members in states with a 10-day waiting period. Researchers found that homicide deaths during the waiting period were extremely rare and found no evidence that delaying firearm possession increased the risk of being killed. The authors concluded that their findings do not support the claim that 10-day waiting periods meaningfully increase homicide risk among new handgun buyers or their cohabitants, although the rarity of such events means very small effects cannot be completely ruled out.

Because homicide during the 10-day waiting period was exceedingly rare, the study had limited power to detect small-to-moderate increases in risk. The results provide evidence against a large increase in homicide risk associated with waiting periods but cannot definitively exclude smaller effects.
