“Consistency” Variables?

First, the question(s): How do you go about picking your baseline recipe, and what is that recipe, and why is it so consistent for you?

For more context and detail: The best advice I have ever been given and try to pass on is “stick to one recipe and learn it really well, and only adjust one variable at a time.”

The hardest thing about that advice is that there are so many different “start here” recipes, so as a noob, there is incredible temptation to just bounce to and fro between each one after getting a bad cup or two in a row.

From double bloom, to 4:6, to Hoffmann 1 Cup, to four equal pours, etc., they all claim to have reasons why they are the most consistent and best baseline, while having solid arguments for why the others are less reliable and consistent.

To restate my questions from above, how do you go about picking your baseline recipe, and what is that recipe, and why is it so consistent for you?

Thanks!
